well it should be pretty obvious wether its an 8v or 16v. then it should say on the logbook if its 1.1 or 1.4, i think these two engines, the 1.1 16v and the 1.4 restricted 16v have very similar power outputs, so its hard to understand why rover would bother using the 2 different powerplants. if all...

Driving a noisy 1.8 L rover 100 really attracts the wrong kind of attention  ... but i love it :P I don't get many boy racer / modified cars trying to race me really, its usually the age 30+ boring car types, who feel the need to proove themselves by overtaking (or trying to) a modified rover ...

they pop up on ebay every now and again, well intercooled and boost controlled will see 170 bhp and similar torque from the engine 8) - harder than the vvc to do the conversion as said before - as emerald or DTA might need to get involved - but it would be different, and fun, and most importantly - ...

meguiars super degreaser

about 15 quid for a gallon, it dilutes 5:1 water to degreaser for strong degreasing properties, or 10:1 water to degreaser for paintwork. Very safe and being megs you know its good.

I went as passenger in one about 2 years ago on the 'Retro Cars' mag. shoot at Brunters. The Metty had a 1.8 VVC engine with Emerald EMS and about 180bhp, IIRC. Great little car!! That would be Andy Richards GTi, solid cammed 1.8 on throttle bodies. I take it you are the guy with the maestro in the...

why would the fact that its a vvc make it explode?

VVC only effects the duration of the inlet cam, making it open for longer at higher rpms.... i think it worked pretty well, but the guy isn't on MetroPower anymore so haven't heard anything of it recently.

has any one fitted the 1.8 k series turbo engine in one yet Yes, there are 3 over on Metropower.co.uk -one was built by a guy called jamie, uprated intercooler etc and a bit of tinkering saw about 170bhp with a stack of torque, over 150lbs i think. -another RobVVC, is currently building a 1.8T into...

They are rapid enough 8) mines a non-vvc 1.8, and i keep with ZR 160's  ... infact, i win :D Top speed is only limited by the gearbox, as a vvc in a metro will pull to the limiter in every gear. 130mph in mine feels slightly unsafe, its more about the thrill factor under 100mph to be honest

i brought my 18,000 miles lotus elise s2 engine (1.8 k series) for £350 with all ancilliaries, 6 months ago... that was a good price at the time, that bunch is still worth £400-£450 for the mileage on it alone. you get what you pay for, 100 quid will be a knacker unless you really do stumble upon...

he has a 1.4 8v (~80bhp) so a 1.6 16valve (~110bhp) is obviously worth it for 30+ bhp. also, its no easier or harder to fit either 16v engine, so you might as well have the +7 more bhp over the metro gti engine... also to whoever said its heavier, its not, same head, but 200 cc's more combustion cha...
