Assets are things you have, it doesn't mean they are depreciation proof, just it means they have a place in a market with a well defined market value.618ireland wrote:Never knew S2000s were depreciation free, feck I should buy one if that's the case........................ heads to kitchen to eat bowl of rice krispies in record time and then plans to dash off to buy one of these assets before they're all snapped up by shrewd investersJonny 5 wrote:

For example if you wanted a BMW E46 M3 as your next car, its easier to get by cashing in your asset if its a Honda S2000 rather than a Rover Turbo. Typically you would need to throw double the cash at the upgrade if stepping from a Rover Turbo.
Thats why the value part of a car is pretty m00t when it comes to such comparisons.
If you were getting picky about investments then the way to get the least return is to spend it modifying a low value low demand car anyway.

£10k S2000, £2k Rover turbo and you wanna buy a good M3 for £18k?
One of those you need £8k the other £16k.
I didnt know stock 220's were faster than S2000's...?

Re: Anoying Rovers Anoying Hot hatchs :-P
If the best argument you have for buying an S2000 in a performance related thread is the depreciation factor, I think you have missed the point of owning an S2000.
If you wanted an E46 M3 as your next car it doesn't really matter what car you have currently, if it doesn't exceed the value of the bimmer, you still have to find the cash. 8k or 16k, if you don't have either then you're not driving heim.
With the money you will lose in depreciation by stepping up to an E46 via an S2000 you could of made your Rover just as fast as an E46. But that is not the reason you would buy one, nor is it the reason you would buy an S2000.
I think what this thread has highlighted, apart from why you shouldn't listen to a fanboy, or base an opinion of a car on traffic light race, is that owning and selecting a car is a very personal choice. If they were all the same (and unfortunately they are getting that way) then it would be a very boring experience, rather like buying a new microwave.
A car is a chance to express personality and individual choice, all get you from A to B with the exception of an Alfa Romeo - so saying one is better than another is completely idiotic. My old landrover is not economical, comfortable, fast or very practical - but I wouldn't have it any other way.
About a year ago I had the option to ditch the Ti and purchase an alternative car, both an S2000 and an E46 would have been within the selection criteria, however I still have a Ti. The decision was not made lightly and never based purely on the specifications on a piece of paper, although I'm quite happy to say if it was, the Ti would have still won
Seriously people, stop making excuses and enjoy the car you have, if you don't, change it for one that you do. Life is far too short.

tbh, there is as much variation in the microwave market as there is in the motor trade.Null_Byte wrote:

Do you want it to be a combi? with steamer, crisper, grill?
eco friendly or high power?
dial or digital
touch sensitive buttons or microswitches
do you trust the 'program times'?
what if I buy one with an 850w power rating? the times on the back of the packets ony go up to 750...
and of course... stainless, mirrored or white?
I think your casual brush aside of the complexities of the microwave world is disgusting tbh.

how much did you pay for the S2000 and how much did you pay for the R200?618ireland wrote:I see what you meanJonny 5 wrote:£10k S2000, £2k Rover turbo and you wanna buy a good M3 for £18k?

How much spare change was left in the bank after the purchase of the R200 due to price difference and how long have we had the cars ... cos Mark probably sold his after owning for a pretty short time to make money on it.
One thing is certain..the R200 will not depreciate anything like an S2000...unless I own it and then the dents scratches and general beatings may.

now....
Pics and text robbed from my original post of it as it mings..
have a giggle...the uber knacked body work on my coupe thanks to the uber tight multi storey car park where i work and a bunch of complete xylophones who live near me
in 3rd pic down theres a strip on the arch...that's where I learnt my lesson...after some inflatable dinghy scraped it I began process of repairing myself only to have some other pecker do the same even worse only a few days later

I did spray the bonnet myself...first ever go at spraying anything so that looks logger too
enjoy
Funny thing is, the rear arches with regards to rust are still in alot better nick than coupes that arent as old as mine

Would love for it to still look mint but as said it's had so so many knocks and scrapes and so few of them from me there's no point in fixing it back up to that level...I like the car alot cos it's been such a good runner and so solid for me but sadly I could buy another for the price of fixing it up.matt077 wrote:your car looked mint in 2007 mate! wouldnt you like it looking like that again?
Moral of the story...don't have a car you love as a daily drive when you park in a tight multistorey car park every day.
