The most you spent on a MG Rover not for...
What is the single largest amount anyone has spent on their Rover / MGs (or other cars for that matter) not buying the car, but say for a part or a repairs.
Inspired by the thread I was reading about a £600 head repair:
http://www.rt2468abcd.r8technology.co.uk/viewtopi ... 3&t=115181
and the fact I just had to shell out £600 to have my clutch and clyinders replaced on my MG ZS 180 when it locked me out of my gears.
Apart from that my biggest single outlay would be £2k for the pre built bottom end on the Coupe Turbo. I bet Markcoupe had a big invoice for his Evo conversion.

I'd not even want to think to add it up. I think single most expensive thing on the Ti would of been tho old forged engine for about £2400 a long time ago.
Most expensive thing on the Landie would be the roverdrive. I think that cost me about £1500. Worth every penny.

Think the most expensive individual component I've bought has been my Janspeed manifold @ £190ish, I knew I could get it a lot cheaper but there was a 4+ week waiting time everywhere except 2 places, and only 1 had it in stock, I wanted it within the same week in time for a track session, so paid that little bit more for it

I paid around £2,200 for a service on one of my ZS180s...
it did include the cam belt change, 4 tyres and 2 ball joints, though.

Local garage Baz, the gearbox was bought and arrived in sealed plastic, 'twas like new, cost him a good few hundred, rest was for the clutch (RRP €100 ish) and labour.BazR wrote:Jaysas H Christ, where?618ireland wrote:€800 for a recon'd gearbox and new clutch fitted to a 214SEi in 2003
The one is my coupe is whining like b1tch, reckon there's not long left in her, hard to know though (when you don't have a clue about such things

Im a tight git so not alot.lol The way i see it is if it can be done cheaper why spend more than you need to. I do all work myself so only spend money on parts not labour.
Most expensive thing i've ever bought was probably my first set of mk2 ZS wheels for my first ZR. Paid £250 for them.

Re: The most you spent on a MG Rover not for...
Omg no wonder ZS 180 are cheap to pick up, its not the fuel costs cos it can get 30mpg, more than the coupe turbo. Its the parts and servicing costs. Your right with the price as I was quoted for £700 for the 90k service including belt changes. So with tyres on top and other work its silly money. Its silly cos you can pick them up fro £1.5k.EMS Ltd wrote:I paid around £2,200 for a service on one of my ZS180s...

...and some of you dont seem to spend anything (or very little), dont know how you do. When I had the coupe turbo as a daily runner I was spend hundreds a month to keep it running and upgrading all the time.

Im struggling to think of any one time i have spent more that £150.00 on any car i have ever had in one hit tbh, i tend to do things as and when i feel they are needed, so perhaps a clutch one month, couple of tyres another month etc etc

For the old bubble turbo, probs the forged bottom end, £550ish iirc or the complete vitty turbo for the orignal engine transplant at £1200.

Just over £400 on the Accord for a cambelt/balancer belt/autotensioner/pulleys change.
The coupe probably the most expensive was the clutch at about £200 all in.

I want to know how much people like Vi turbo have spent on expensive engine parts?
I would think that over 500bhp comes at a very high price, even if you do all the engine building work yourself!

Aye I simply wouldnt be able to add up all the car parts I've bought over the years, I frequently bin the receipts to hide the evidence from the girlfriend. I'm sure I could have bought a house by now. I just look at it as a hobby there fore its would be the equivilant to a membership to a tennis and gym membership each month (and a few other maybe).David-Ti wrote:£1600+ on some engine internals/components.. hobby is the only way to justify spending so much. I have other hobbys but even over the course of a year, the amount spent out on any of them still would'nt equate to that single payment made on car parts.

everythink including mapping the thing owes me about 8k but that is absolutley everything as i do everything myself (it works out alot cheaper that way)
things ive had and changed eg turbo spec has changed 4 times but everytime i sell up i seem to get my money back on the turbo etc so not so bad ive gone from gt2871r to gt3071r-wg to gt3076 to gt35r and from these 4 turbos ive had ive only needed to spend 200pounds from original 2871r purchase
exhaust manifold has changed a couple of times but not expensive ones really the one currently on my engine is a 200sx one fully adapted to a 16mm thick flange so it clears the head and t3 turbo flange and external wastegate taken off it and it owes me less than 100 pounds
inlet manifold owes me 130 pounds with the 70mm throttle body intercooler is cheapo ebay special exhaust made at work so labour free
although cost is about to go up a little as ive taken the engine out and am slowly in the process of dropping the engine into a zr120
so am thinking of building a new quieter exhaust have a bigger/better radiator and bigger intercooler to buy
so main costs are
head port polish cams and springs
pistons
rods
turbo
clutch
ecu
mapping

TBH that is bloody impressive IMO! £8k for a comprehensive 550bhp build isn't at all bad.
I expect that with the expensive prices of Jap parts, Evo owners breaking 550bhp will be costing them probably a very silly amount, as the big name tuning parts for these types of car's seem to be very expensive for what they are!

erm most expensive thing iv brought for individual item would prob be turbo £250
collectively would be my new bottom end witch at mo stands me at £600
