To be fair, a B18C4 is whats in a Civic MB6 Vti - ive had one, and although fun, its nothing that special that its in that chassis. Really cant have been that hard to do. If it was the B18C6, out of the Intergra, i think thats about 200bhp.

VTEC was fun in an MB6 like, pulled well in third.

I know this is a B18 but they talk about the D-series in the link. Was it ever fitted into the 400 at all as Ive only ever seen a K & T & L series fitted, Maybe the export market was different :?

This is one engine conversion which I thought would have been done a lot more by now in Rovers. There seems to be a few R600's about with the H22, and the odd R8 with a B-series but theres not many of these conversions about.

Would love to do a conversion like this myself.

The engines go for quite good money tbh as they get put into the little civics. These also had the T16 nasp in too, making them easy to drop a T16 turbo in as you have the mounts already. Same as for ZS's, you can just use the 420 running gear and drop a T16 in it.

The front strut tops look odd to me for some reason.

They are EG or MB strut tops. Looks like the guys have done a bit of chassis modification (asuming the 400 dosn't share front suspension with the MB civic)

It makes some sense to fit the B18 into an auto 400 with the Honda D-series engine, but not really if it's got a K in it instead. I've never seen any of these D-series powered 416i's about, and i always thought that Rover was using the 1.6K mated up to a CVT gearbox by that time anyway?

It also makes sense to buy a Civic Vti and put the Rover or MGZS bumpers and styling parts on. As others have said though, if you have a 420i or a K-series 414/416i powered car then a T16 turbo is the best and easiest conversion to do for excellent performance.

Not sure if they changed it in later models but certainly some of them had the honda lump. Iv only ever seen one on ebay and thats it so kinda rare.

Sure it makes sense to do that here.. i dont think they got the MB in japan though so i can understand why he did it.

All of the DOHC Vtec engines are GREAT engines and even the Sohc Vtec D15b is a hoot, you can thrash them all day any day and they will happily take it.

Just had a quick look on the NZ auction site and found 1 in minutes , If you look the top turrets look quite square Just like the white one

And then to manual convert it , id imagine pedals from a Civic ? and manual trim from a non auto ? because all the holes in the firewall will still be there wouldnt they ?
