MOT day tomorrow

Post by montytom »

Hi guys just thought id let you know that tomorrow is MOT day for my vitesse. It has been a long time coming and after getting a new gearbox rebuilding it with steel caged bearings and a new clutch.
When on a quick test to see whether all gears where there(on private land as its big units on farmland so legal)the driveshaft popped out(drivers side). When i pushed it it never fully went in so a couple taps and she is proper in. Im going to give it a wash and have checked all lights etc and they are fully operational.Wish me luck guys and hopefully next week driving my vitesse and getting rid of my zr.

People always worry about MOT's but the MOT standard is the bare minium just above scap condition to be honest.

Some testers can be like Hitler and fail things because they can so to speak. They introduced the advisorys for a reason to pass and advise things any tester should be looking to pass a car not fail and any doubts as to whether an item should fail should always go in favour of the presenter and the item advised. Thats how I test its a fair test then.

Thanks i agree but when a car hasn't been on the road for 7 months I feel a little trepidation.

Hi guys the vitesse went for an MOT today and it failed. It's not all doom and gloom though it only failed on a couple of bulbs from the centre brake light and the nearside front drop link. It had an advisory for the offside front droplink aswell so I just told them to do them both at the same time. I'm a happy bunny really as the car has been off the road 7 months I thought I would have a list as long as your arm. I'm pleasantly surprised

If you say centre stop light has been disconnected they then have to pass and advise it ;) gives you a chance to sort it then

Failing you for a worn drop link seems a bit harsh. Particularly if they issued an advisory for the other drop link. Why not pass it and advise both of them? They're hardly safety critical. Same with the 3rd brake lamp. A car presented with these faults should be passed with advisories.
I should've quit you a long long time ago. then I wouldn't be here with all my trouble, down on this killing floor

It was pretty cheap so I got both drop links done. The MOT including picking up and dropping off was £50 and in total it cost me £111.50 so I'm not to bothered. I wouldn't try arguing anyway as that wouldn't get me anywhere with them or they would fail it on more. They are dropping the car off Monday once the works complete and my mate is taking me to get the car from the lockup and scrap my mg.

Once they have issued a fail they cant then go failing it on more stuff VOSA would rip them a new bum hole for that

Well done matey.I never normally have a car long enough to MOT it but it's a great feeling.
Since the car has been in our family(was my dads car before mine) we have spent more than it cost on upkeep/tuning parts etc but it has been worth it.It has so much sentimental value to me as my dad gave it to me. Funny thing is when we talk about it we still refer to it as his car.

My vitesse is now taxed MOTd and insured and by God is the noise addictive. I also found on the failure sheet that they failed the car on the loudness of the exhaust. Luckily I left the baffle in the boot and they stuck it in. The emissions were very good and they commented on how nice it drove. All in all a happy bunny. I'm like this at the moment :drive: 8)
