600 or 200

Post by lee2003 »

ok the big question,i will be embarking on a new project within the next 6 months.it will be engine mods mainly upto about 300 bhp at the fly wheel,
now the $64000 question do i do the mods to:

200 coupe which i have with average mods (see link)

600 which ill have to buy

400 is a no no as i dont like them :sorry:(except for the tourer)

i keep looking at the 600 and when ever i go out in me mates ti theres no wind noise,no crashing or banging when going over holes in the road, the best heater ive ever felt in a car but tis slower than a turbo coupe.

what i need to know is the pros and cons of each car.

cheers

got with either a 200 3 door hatch, or a 3 door bubble.

don't get a flexy-coupe, and the Ti is to be honest, too heavy.

just my 2p worth

I would also say go with a 3 Door Hatch. A bubble would also be ok I suppose.

after seeing your coupe jonny im a bit worried about if the top of the cage will hit me head(might knock some sense in me :D )

this was a route i was thinking about but to be honest im getting a bit fed up with the wind noise as well.

well, if i had a choice between my old 216GTi twin cam (H reg) and my 620sli (P reg), id go for the 200 anyday, it was a 5 door, but i should imagin they are all the same.

200 just feels so much better! everything in better proportions (for me anyways, flame suit on)

go for a coupe - front and rear sturt braces stiffen it up loads... as for the creaks and bangs... suspension mods help and as for the creaks do it racer style and weld metal plate where the roof panels would go.

Out of the two listed i'd work with a 600 as there cheap as a bag of my mums better buy pork scratchings.

Can always swap the engine out when you've finished with it. ;)

The coupe handles just as well as the GSI. I use both on tracks and jump in and out of them both and can't tell the diffrence.

If I had to lose one of them it would be the 3 door hatch. Keep the coupe...

Just my 2p's worth.

Personally i think its bit of an Urban Myth. The coupe may have a hole in the roof but the hatch has a massive hole where the boot sits not to mention no fixed rear bulk heads. Dont think there a lot of difference either way.

600 for many reasons.
Can't list them all, but mainly, better handling as std.
Depends what you want though.
200 is gonna be faster ultimately, but less refined.

unless you end up stripping the 600's out like we have, and then out the window goes the refinement advantage ;)

for fastest it's the 220 Coupe
for handling it's a well set up 200 hatch
for all round refinement and package it's a 600

everything is a compromise, so choose what you want to use it for.
I can assure you that 300bhp in a 600 is more than enough for grin factor on our majesty's highways ;)

all imho of course

this is what im thinking off a bit of refinement as i will be using the car everyday, its that the coupe is crash bang wollop all the time and the wind noise in the winter is really getting on me beers if im honest,if i do keep the coupe it have to have new rubbers (oh er) on both doors and roof and the way to stiffen the chassis has been said above (strut brace etc).
it would seem roll cage is a no no after what has been said on the forum.
i was driving behind a zs yesterday and thought that they don't look to bad so ive think it might be the 600

slight change off plan here i take it back about not liking the 400 series, does anyone know whats involed in putting a turbo in a 400(bubble) as i have a perfect donor (mine)or is it even possible?
i might go for the zs look as well as i keep seeing the same zs on the way to work (someone telling me something :D ) and i must admit they do look quite nice.

cheers
