Scary wind

My god I hate the motorway when it's windy!

I had to drive to southampton today, and the first bit of the journey was on the motorway.
Now, I wasn't going that fast, only matching what the average motorway user does, but I had to slow down at several points cos the wind at that speed is evil!

I could feel the car wanting to change lanes all by itself! Overtaking lorrys was soooo much worse too, the car just felt so unstable.

Does everybody get this from time to time? When you are travelling at speed it's not nice to have the car move on its own. Makes me want to invest in huge wheel arches and 245mm wide tyres.

I know the feeling I often go to my Dads in the Lake District and the last time i went it was raining all the way and real windy on the higher ground really scary tring to overtake lorries that are in the in the middle lane in the pi$$ing down rain pitch black.

Yup, the wind is certainly scary when your on motorway and its giving some gust. Remeber taking a sprinter down M1 and getting hit by a gust and it pushed the van onto next lane. I bet its horrible for trucks. I tend to floor it past trucks / high sided vehicles if have to drive side by side with them in bad winds.

I recently had to pick up the better half from Newcastle Airport after she got diverted from Liverpool due to the winds when carslile got flooded, going through the lake district it started snowing for about a mile. I was going past a lorry and noticed that a combination of the wind and ground snow was making me slide into the fast lane... now bear in mind i was driving my father in-law's Land Rover at the time ... VERY scary!

Off topic but Redditch United played Carlisle Unitde in the FA Trophy this weekend, it was moved to another venue due to the ground being flooded. We lost 3-1 but it was such a good day out. The atmosphere was great and the fans were soooo funny, singing "We are sailing" "Row, row, row your boat" "We all live in a yellow submarine" and the classic "If your house ain't flooded clap your hands"

Today has got to be the worst day driving ever.

Tuesdays I goto Manchester, being in a van don't help. Had terrential rain, snow, gale force winds and sleet (spelling?) and its the first time I have ever wondered if I was going to get home, it really did scare me.

Well I encountered some very scary wind on sunday morning on the A2 near Dartford.

Made an awful mess of my pants :oops:

You should try going over the Thelwall viaduct on a bike with a gale force crosswind threatening to either blow you under the nearest juggernaut or over the edge :cry:

A week or so ago I went over the forth road brdige in a 7.5 tonner, had hardly any weight on so no point using the 18 tonner, bridge wasnt closed to high sided vehicles despite it being very windy so I assumed wind speed on the bridge wasnt much more than it was on the road, double checked with the guy in the booth, yeah mate the signs arent up so its ok. Must have some sort of wind speed readers on the bridge itself.

Most scared I've been behidn a wheel in years, truck lifted a wheel at one point when a big gust hit it, should never have been open, it was closed about 30 mins later and remained so all day. Artic in front of me wast having much fun but it was a gravel/stone tipper so was weighing in at a lot anyway, more swaying than leaning.
