800 Vitesse Sport -v- 600 Ti
Which is the better car?
I'm getting bored of my electric windows playing up on my 825SD, and was considering a Vitesse Sport, but the windows are putting me off! I guess the 600 doesnt suffer this problem?
What are the performance / mpg specs for the Ti? what are they like for space?
Did the Ti come with Recaros?
Thanks

Hi, I think this has been discussed before.
I think that the vit sport beets the Ti for handling..
The problem the Ti has with it's windows are the windows coming out of its runners, though easy to fix.
edit: Just thought, a Ti isnt as big as a 800 inside or out.
Thougth there is plenty of room for the larger gent.

Performance figures are very similar for both, i believe the Vitesse Sport (post-96 Vitesse) was 0-60 in 7.3, the Ti 7.1, top speed in excess of 140mph for both.
The 620ti seems to be better built. The seats are not as good as the genuine Recaro's in the 800. There is a little more space overall in an 800 and you also get more toys.
If you need boot space you cannot beat a hatch, of course the Ti only came in saloon format.
600 is better composed handling wise than the 800 and ultimatly you'll have more fun in it if you like the twistys.
The 800 is also cheaper to buy but its still down to personal choice. I like the 600 but the 800 would be the choice for me.

I couldn't decide between them. In the end I just decided to get whatever car was in the best condition/low milage/service history, and was still within my budget.
I like the 800 better as I find there is something imposing about it, especially when its in metallic paint.
However I would not favour a 70K mile 800 over a 50K mile 600 if they were the same price/condition.

Hmmm ... not so sure. My Vitty sport easily handles as well as my old Ti - possibly slightly better. It certainly feels more stable at higher speeds. So, having owned both, I'd not be quite so hasty in deciding that one is better than the other.
I'm selling mine, if you can live with the full leather interior rather than Recaros! (Link is under my signature image)
Roverlessness - what a strange feeling!

The 600 doesnt have climate control, only aircon.
The full leather 800 has heated seats. Electrically operated with memory function.
I think there are a few other little things. Like the delay switch off headlamps etc.

I prefer Air con anyway over climate, and as my climate has never worked since i bought the car, i doubt i'd miss it lol. do all Ti's have air con? Leccy seats dont worry me either, nor do the head lamps

I havent owned either a vit sport or a 620ti, but interms of the interiors and what things are were ive owned both to know which is better.
the 600 just annoyed me more than anything. The window switces are in a stupid place (by the handbrake, like right next to it), the boot is much smaller than an 800's, and ive actually found the interior space to be on the small side with the 600. Whether its bulky door cards, dashbord mouldings, it feels slightly cramped.
If i had to go and get my mate from swansea, next time ill go in the 800, the fastback version has huuge boot space potential by dropping the seats. the 600 can drop the seats also but obviously not as much capacity.
also, as far as windows go, on the 800 is usually just the switches or the fuse box, but on the 600 it tends to be the mechanism, it went on my 600 which the dealer charged huge amounts to fix, the 800 ones still work ('91).
if your after larger comfier cars, the 800 is the way to go.

Don't be put off by the fusebox on 800's. The one you need to work on to fix your windows is under the steering wheel shroud/lower dash cover.
Pull that cover off (4 twist clip thingies), undo all the connectors plugged to the fuse box, undo 4 ten mil bolts and gently ease the fuse box out.
Take it to the kitchen where your soldering iron should be simmering, carefully put a fresh dollop of solder over every joint you can find without putting too much on and bridging any parts of the pcb.
Take back to car and refit in the reverse order to how you took it out.
Took me 45 leisurely minutes a year ago (naughtily I didn't even disconnect the battery) and absolutely no more leccy window/radio/sun-roof problems since...

Ditto that! Mine occasionally played up, and now work every time all for the sake of 40-50 mins work, and it's NOT difficult
A damn sight easier fix than the 600 window falling out/off the runners problem
As for handling of the 800, I'd just point out Jims performance at TOTB last year
This is my 4th 800 compared to only 1 600, and that was only a 2.0 Si, guess which gets my vote!

Having experienced both i personally prefer the ti. I like the vits...a lot of car for the money, lots of room, fairly imposing and good equipment level with the nice recaro seats...however i'm not so keen on the dash in the 800 which although a little honda-plastique in the 600 looks a bit old and angular in the 800 and far less modern i think. I also prefer the shape of the 600 as it once again looks, in my eyes, a bit newer...especially with a nice set of wheels. On a tangent, the vit also seemed to have serious lift of oversteer
when pushing on, which was scary/fun and interesting but maybe just this car in particular? If it was my money i'd get a ti but i'd definetely be more than happy with a vit as it's a hell of a good car for the money and if space is your main concern then maybe would be a better choice as after all it is bigger....I'd let condition and price decide...
