First decent run in my 620ti

Post by calibrax »

This weekend I drove my 620ti from Kent up to Warrington and back, 240 miles each way... the car performed superbly, never skipped a beat and did 26mpg overall. Traffic on the way up there was heavy so it took around 6 hours, but on the way back it only took 3.5 hours as the road was fairly clear.

I did find on the way up that the "bulge" in the door tray that's designed to hold drinks was rubbing on my right leg, it was annoying... I may have to do something about that - I think the older models didn't have that feature? But overall I felt better after the drive than I used to in my Cavalier. It was certainly much more fun driving with all that extra power :)

Best bit was when a BMW came up behind me with his front fogs on (prat!) and tailgated me in the fast lane... as soon as there was space I moved over, and then eased my foot down on the accelerator... poor guy sat in the outside lane trying desparately to get the speed to pass me, but ended up pulling in behind me. Result!

Older ti's dont have the cup holder, I think that would apply to any pre face lift 600 as well.

If I live to be a hundred I will never tire of doing that --- it is particularly satisfying in my 21 year old MG Montego Turbo... Once they realise their chosen means of transport aint all that, invariably they pull up BEHIND you, even if the outside lane is vacant ... sort of Oh I'm not really trying after all ... yeah right.

By the way, a correction if I may. There is no such thing as the "Fast" lane... also sometimes known as the BMW lane and even that is a misnomer...

As a 620ti driver, to you ALL lanes are fast lanes...
Apparently ... in a parallel universe MGJohn drives ....wait for it..... A ..

Had my Ti about a Week now, and i've managed to chalk up a Porche Cheyane S going over snake Pass (A57 Sheffield to Glossop). :D

Soo much fun. It just doesn't get boring beating all those "Modded" Corsa's you seem to get up here.

I am *so* with you on that. It's something I love about the 420 turbo and something I have really missed whilst not driving it the last many months.
91 Citroen BX GTi 8v - bought March 13
95 Ford Mondeo 1.8i Ghia - March 11 - March 13 - scrapped
98 620 SLDi - July 08 - March 11
97 420 GSDi - dumped in France
94 420 GSi Turbo, 235bhp. Dec 03 - May 08, still missed
93 214 Si - June 02 - Feb 04

It's the look of confusion on their faces that gets me every time :D
