Could always rip them out and fit a non air bag dash.

I'd suggest pulling the SRS fuse but this might might upset the system and require a costly reset :(

No, better than that, take out the airbag and cover and build a pod with gauges in it. I'm planning to fit an LCD screen to use when my vid camera is mounted in the car. I will leave the cover in place when I'm not using the car so no-one sees the screen.

Surely he could just disconnect it?

IIRC you disconnect the battery for 20 mins, then pull the plug on it. Then reconnect the battery. of course, it cant just be switched on again, but atleast the kid can go in the front.

Thinking about it, the SRS light would come on and fail the MOT I suppose.. so I'd guess replacing it with a resistor would be the answer? May be worth seeing what people do to solve this prob when fitting non SRS steering wheels.

If the SRS light stays on it's an MOT fail IIRC, if the light doesn't come on and go off again with engine startup I think it's a fail too (so no removing of the bulb). Somebody on here wired the bulb up to the oil light I believe, which I thought was a pretty good idea, lol.

SRS light on does not affect the MOT, only the ABS light dies that :)

Like the sound of that. A mate of mine is planning something similar for his PS2 etc.

How about hiding a switch somewhere?

A resistor on 1 side and the airbag on the other so you can choose whether to have it on or not?

For the sake of a child's safety I'd rather just put the baby in the back :)

Baby has been going in the back. no way would i risk putting her in the front with the airbags on...

Thought there might be a way to switch them off tho so she can ride shotgun with her Dad

My car went through an MOT with the SRS light on. It is not an MOT failure.

i was going to put a post on about this but this 1 seems to cover it as im after doing the same thing, we want to unplug the air bag so our son can go in the front, it does seem less hastle to put him in the back but we dont like it as we can get to him if we are in the car on our own with him. there must be a way of discanecting the air bag. we have a Ti tho not a vitty (yet) :)

I guess the big question is whether the passenger airbag can be disconnected without the whole system throwing a wobbly and deactivating the driver's airbag and all the seat-belt pretensioners? I suspect not, as the system knows what resistance the airbags etc are supposed to have and will test them at system start-up. An appropriate valve resistor in place of the passenger airbag may well work.

If the kid is under 1 year on a litle bit more, it's beter for the neck to be in the front. Why? Because the head vs. body weight ratio is difrent than by adult's, then it would pull the head of he child tho front and broke the neck when siting in the direcion of driving.

IMO I would also put the child in the back (maybe with a seat in the oposite direction of driving)
Sorry for my bad english.
