How much are 17" vitty alloys worth?

Post by SteTommo »

I'm getting some new wheels soon and I was wondering what to do with the 17" vitty sports that are on there ATM.

There's no major damage, just a few scuffs but 2 of them are corroded in the centre and need respraying to look 100%

How much are they worth?

I think they're worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for them at the time, really.

Wasn't long ago that you'd be lucky to get fifty quid for a set, but at the moment 250 seems common if they have good tyres!

Definitely a seller's market at the moment for Vitty Sport rims.

(Which is a bugger, because I want a set. )

It did. ;)

But, as I was quite skint at the time of buying her, to bring the price down a bit I let Rob keep the 17's to sell on, and she's on 15" Sterlings at the moment. Car was a bargain as it was, didn't want to try and rip him off any more! :)

I see lots of people saying Sterlings on 15". Was the 16" an option then as my 820 Mk1 has 16's and before I knew better thought all Sterlings ran on 16's.

Well the "Sterling" 15" on Steves at the moment came off an 820i SE rather than a Sterling, however anorak time, the correct name for that style is Prestige, same style was also available on the 420 GSi  [/anorak] :D

I could have done with a set of Vitesse Sport alloys for the one I just acquired, as the previous owner took them off for his Ti, but £250 a set makes them more than what I paid for the whole car, so I think my other Vitesse is going to have its wheels swapped!
It's a small world, but I wouldn't want the job of painting it.

Depends what the tyres are like really.

Have they been repainted? Perhaps it is just the photograph, but the centre cap looks quite a different hue to the wheel around it :?

Yes they have, the paint has coroded off in the center so I decided to respray them. The colour is slightly differnt but the camera made it look al lot worst.

Before you all ask, the reason I've resprayed them is, they do look a lot better, I know I should of shotblasted them and used the proper rover paint but it was just a quick job to make them look better. so if you just want to buy them and stick them on your car they are all nice and shiney. If you were going to do a full recon on the alloys you'de shotblast them anyway so it doesn't make much diference that there's another coat of paint on there. I've put 3 coats of laquer on there too so the paint will stay put.

And the tyres are just legal, so you could put them on your car, but TBH they need replacing.
