216 Coupe
I will be selling my mini soon and upgrading (well, getting something bigger).I like the look of the coupes but due to insurance costs the only one I could afford would be the 1.6. So what do you guys think of them? Rover engine or Honda.
Cheers

Quite a big difference, actually (111bhp vs 136bhp, plus all that T16 torque!).walshy.walsh wrote:i used to have the sohc 216 gti, great car, not much between that and the 220 gsi power wise
I would be inclined to look for a nice, late 216 with the D16 (Honda) engine. They sound really good with a decent exhaust system and induction kit fitted!
Roverlessness - what a strange feeling!

Honda engine definately.
In 2 years of ownership mine has been good as gold engine wise. Dont suppose the power difference would be too great tbh, both about the same, both revvy, but I'd put money on the honda being much more reliable.

if you cant afford the 2litre, the honda is an easy choice over the 1.6K any day of the week.
as said, the 2litre makes a nice lazy drive with a fair bit more power and more torque and less reving needed.
i used to think ragging it everwhere was cool in the metro, then realised it did my head in, and now the 420 is much more laid back

A 220 is definetly not an option for me, the insurance would be 2.5k a year and i am definetly not paying that. I think it will be a 1.6, but the rover engined coupes are a better deal than the honda's with lower mileage examples.Scott wrote:if you cant afford the 2litre, the honda is an easy choice over the 1.6K any day of the week.

That depends on your engineering knowledge, your skill with your hands, your ability to read about the conversions and not want spoon feeding, erm your wallet, your problem solving abilities....JA1987 wrote:Ok so I will probably go with the honda engine, but with so many mint rover engined coupes for sale is it worth just dropping a B16 into a rover engined coupe and if so what would this do to the insurance? And how difficult is the swap?
Cheers
Its possiable, and has been done. Jonny was the orginal, then there have been others that have posted pics and tales of there problems.
To Sum up, its possiable, as are most things, but is bloody hard, and don't expect to much 'spoon feeding' allot of people will help as long as you are putting in the effort.

Edit i just re-read your post, you said dropping a B16 into a ROVER engine coupe. Ermm triple any of the work that has been done before, examples above were off B16's into a Honda engine coupe

Mines pretty close to that, no need to dream
Can deffo recommend a DOHC 1.6 Coupe, no end of fun and a pretty damn capable car. Dont use B16 and drop in the same sentence.
