I heard today that BMW may be selling the Rover name to Nanjing but Ford may get first refusal, any confirmation or denials ?
BMW have finally sold the name but not disclosing to whom.

From what I heard BMW held onto the Rover name and the logo and in effect took comission everytime it was used, thats why the Rover badge was changed

From what I read in ther german financial times, BMW had /has still the rights on the brand Rover with the rights on the badge.
But Ford has the right of buying it first, cause they got that right with buying the Land-Rover mark. But now what I really wanted to say...Ninjang bought the brand MG, and or but now SAIC will buy the brand Rover, not Ninjang!
look here (sorry it´s german):

Quote from the above article:
"But now a new chapter awaits Morris Garages. MG is going to stand for something new under its new owners, according to Nanjing boss Zhang Xin. He said: "We want Chinese consumers to know this brand as 'Modern Gentleman'. To see that this brand represents grace and style."
Don't they realise that's the reason MG-Rover didn't have a particularly good image to many people. MG needs to be the a$$ kicking, mother fu**ing, come on if you think you're hard enough brand if it's going to succeed again.

Yeah it was part of the deal done with Ford over Land Rover. Ford where worried that anyone who bought the Rover brand may use it to market a rival 4x4. So BMW kept the rights to the Rover name, along with triumph and thats why we dont have a Sand ROver Freeloaderlistie wrote:From what I heard BMW held onto the Rover name and the logo and in effect took comission everytime it was used, thats why the Rover badge was changed
To me this is a sad day for the MG-Rover brand. Despite the debacle of the Phoenix consortium, MG-Rover had survived with some dignity. All I can see now is Nanklangers aquiring the rights to build the Perodua Nippa and market it as the New Rover Hetro.

Rover 221 coupe turbo 255.5bhp & 256.1lbs/ft (in the garage)
Rover 214 Mk3 Turbo Conversion (in bits)
Rover 416 GSi (in the garden)

In the german newspaper there was an "drawback" (?) of the addvertised deal. BMW and SAIC saying that they only discuss about selling/buying the brand but nothing is done yet.
So the Brand hasn´t been sold...yet.
