I'm going to have a look at this coupe later on this afternoon. When I was on the phone to the guy last night he also mentioned it needed the thrust bearing done.

First off does an offer of £1000 seem reasonable or is it a tad expensive considering what needs done.
Secondly, how much does it roughly cost to get the thrust bearing fixed. He reckons the clutch is good just the thrust bearing needing done
Thirdly, what else should I be looking out for?
Any help would be great
Cheers

Hi,
thrust bearing is a gearbox off job so about 3-4 hours labour, the thrust bearing itself is about £20 (from a Land Rover dealer - Rover price is closer to £30).
Usual checks apply, make sure you check out the rust patches on the sills as if it's rotted through it can cost a few £'s to sort properly.
Cheers

usually the clutch and thrust bearing come as a kit so if the thrust bearings gone then surely the clutch isn't far behind, unless the bearing has suffered premature ejac
faliure. it is also possible the gearbox bearings could be on their way out, to someone who dont know how to check for this the noise is very similar.
