It is British - Support British Engineering.

I wanted something fast, very rare and didn't rust quick. 220 GTi Turbo fitted the bill.

Another Rover - perhaps ZR T16?

Nope still got my first car, Maestro Police car :)

1) Because a very good friend of mine had a 600ti and I was impressed by the comfort and performance - he said i wouldn't find anything as rapid for the price and he was right.

2) As above really, I love the stealth factor of the 600s, they don't look as rapid as they are, and that IMHO can only be good.

3) A vitty sport, basically because they are better handling and come with more toys. But that was before i tweeked my 600, I wouldn't change now at all.

4) First car was a SIII Landrover, which I have also rebuilt from the axles up and tuned significantly.

1. I had a 214 SEi at the time (which I chose because my mum had one and to be honest a nice nippy 1.4 with half leather etc at 20/21 seemed a good buy for the money) and was going to change the SEi for a Pulsar, then due to the fact the coupe turbo was cheaper I got it instead, which thankfully was the right choice and I wouldn't do any different, it's survived 2 car changes now and although I tried to sell it once I'll never get enough cash for it to part with it I don't think so it lives on as a plaything for the weekend etc.

2. 220 Turbo coupe, as above, chose it due to the fact I wanted somethign with a lot more poke than my modified 116bhp SEi and I would have had to saved for a Pulsar, whereas I could afford the coupe as it was and it had all the right things, looked good, was plenty fast compared to the 214 (I soon got used to it though and started to modify it) , full leather, aircon etc

3. I wouldn't change my coupe for another Rover.

4. No, my first car was a 1.4 mk4 escort XR3i/RS turbo replica

1) coz i wanted 200 brake but didn't have much money and mike (214_si)kept bang on about how good they are.

2)220 coupe turbo because mikes misses happened to have one for sale at the time for a VERY reasonable price.

3)not sure maybe a 420 gsi or turbo when the time comes that i need 4 doors. (if i still cant afford an evo).

4)no first car was a escort 1.3 bonus built like a tank.

A:

1] Because they are good value for money.
2] Rover 200 1.1i Bubble - Cheap insurance, was only £1100 with all the features of power steering etc, against a similar spec 106 with no power steering at £1800!
3] I changed to a 1.6 Rover Coupe, but I would never trade it on, would just buy more :D
4] It was actually my second, however I sold the Nova within 6 weeks of driving...

1] Which one? So far I'm onto my 6th Rover turbo!! Can't get enough of them, love the way they drive. Have a look around at pricing too, your not going to go quicker for the same money.
2] Picked the coupe because I just love the overall look of it.
3] Right now I can't think of anything that I would swap for.
4] No, first car was a MK1 Golf GTi in Mars red.
Jap import gone. Currently on the look out for another turbo though. PM me if you have a good'n.

1 - Bought an 800 as the insurance was £400 cheaper than a 416 at the time. As well as my old man having had them since about 1990.

2 - Had an 820 Si first as it was there at the time. Swapped to a Sterling 3 months later. Which doubled my insurance.

3 - They don't make the car I want. An R plate 827 for the no. plate I've bought.

4 - First car was a Metro 1L City X.

1:Had 6 now since i was 17 (20 now) Currently Got My Zr and 420gsi turbo. Where else can you get an 02 plate car with electrics, 17's sideskirts, half leather, spoiler and splitters all factory fitted for £2k? And where else can you get 200bhp for £500?

2:Currently got Zr 105 and 420 Gsi turbo explained above.

3:I'd only ever change them for another rover, If i had the space i'd have more. I'd love a vvc metro but i can only have one if i sell the 420 but thats my baby and its not going anywhere soon. I'd love to swap the Zed for either a ZR 160 or in the future im 100% having a ZTT in trophy blue when i can afford the insurance. i strayed away from rover for a couple of months with an astra coupe (shudder) Nice car but i missed my rovers so i cam back with the Zed.

4: My 1st car was a nova but never had it on the road. First car i had when i passed me test was a 214sei in charcoal grey with gti side spats and spoiler and Zr straights. Its still about somewhere. I'd love to buy it back :(

1) Learned to drive in my mum's 25 which was her 3rd Rover after a 414sli and a 416sli, so was well clued up on them and always found them comfy and nippy as a passenger.
2) Went for a coupe turbo as I loved the looks and fancied something with a bit of welly. Also it never gets dull embarassing other 'performance cars' that cost 20 times as much!
3) Would not swap the coupe turbo for another Rover - I'm sure many would disagree but to me any trade would be a step down (well maybe a ZT V8 :D )
4) First car was a 214Si bubble which I sat my test in, basically wanted the same as mum's 25 but cheaper.

1.) Always had a connection with MGR(ARG, BL & BMC).
2.) Had several models but my favourite has always been the R8 coupe in Tahiti blue and it would of course have to be of the turbo variety.
3.) I wont be changing the coupe, far to much money and good memories, plus its a car that I've always wanted. My next car wont be a Rover unfortunatley.
4.) Triumph Toledo

1. Before I got my first Rover I had a Ford Escort 1.6 Sport. I loved the car but it was quite a shed and I was going on holiday by road to France and really wasn't confident the Escort would make it. A guy round the corner was selling his '93 214Si and I hated the idea of buying it. However, it was cheap and in good nick so I bought it. Grandad car - yuck. So it ended up with a full exhaust system, coupe bumpers, lowered, Turbo alloys etc etc and I LOVED it!!! 1.4 which would kill most equivalents. Got it with about 125,000 miles on and sold it with about 160,000. To a friend. Who then had it for a few thousand more, and then sold it to mach1rob's mate who ended up scrapping it :( She had a bloody good run though!

2. I guess you mean the model owned now? Well I had changed jobs and had more money. Been a member on rover200.com, roverload and rovertech (in that order... for the newer members, it's a long story!) and I know how good the turbo'd Rovers were. My 420t came up for sale on here - it was a non runner and I gave £650 for it in Dec '03. Fixed her up and haven't ever looked back

3. I have often thought about this and really can't justify anything at the moment. I'm SO sure I'd regret getting rid of it.

4. First car was a '91 Vauxhall Nova 1.4i Merit which I had for about 4 months and killed it to death every time I drove it. Never serviced it or looked after it at all and it never went wrong. Sold it to a lad I worked with for several hundred quid more than I'd paid for it. It was a bit of a shed
91 Citroen BX GTi 8v - bought March 13
95 Ford Mondeo 1.8i Ghia - March 11 - March 13 - scrapped
98 620 SLDi - July 08 - March 11
97 420 GSDi - dumped in France
94 420 GSi Turbo, 235bhp. Dec 03 - May 08, still missed
93 214 Si - June 02 - Feb 04

1) My Dad suggested a Rover 200 to me as a first car. I was looking at Clios and after running an insurance quote for a 200, went to look at a few.
2) I've had 2 214's and wanted something with a bit more poke. Plus, the 3 doors are fairly rare and you don't see many around.
3) I'd get an original mint 220 GSi Turbo. Save me having to do an engine conversion on mine.
4) Nope, this is my 3rd car. My other 2 cars have both been Rovers though. Doesn't that tell you something?

1) mate had a 420gsi sport (not turbo), seemed nice, so i got a 216gti twin cam as a second car

2) i have no idea, it was one of those crazy spur of the moment things

3) never change anything over the 820 mk1 turbo, with a possible exception for a vitty coupe or perhaps an SD1 VDP TP watsit... Never another 600, they suck :D

4) first car was a fiat panda, not a touch on a rover :D

1: Always had a British car, first two were Hillman Hunters and then got a Morris Ital 1.7HL saloon. I really liked it so when that was written off by white van man I bought an estate. That was written off by HGV man reversing into it. Then I had two Montego's (1.6L's) and finally when my Dad retired, I bought his 820i which I've still got sat on my drive (always the intention to have her running again). Since then 800 series all the way.

2: 1991 J plate Mk1 820i from my Dad.

3: Perhaps an 800 Vitesse Coupe (or an estate  )

4: Not my first but much liked.

The annoying thing is, if the 800 had a Merc or BMW badge on it everyone would have said how good it was. But it was a marked animal from day one.
Shame really.

1)It was cheap for what it offeres and being a Honda engine was likely to be reliable. I choose not to drive a Rover at present mind.
2) Have owned a few, a couple of 216's and 827's as well as Vittesse turbo's. The honda engined ones were chosen as they were reliable, the vitesse as they had good bang per buck.
3) have already abandoned Rovers as I have always Loved Italian cars, Mostly Alfa's and Fiat coupes.
They have far more Charisma then the Average Rover as well as better styling. And dare I say it they are more reliable than the non Honda rovers.

4) my first car was a ford Fiesta 1.3 Ghia. It was ok but not brillaint.

1. Because I wanted a revvy honda engined car for £1000 - £2500 which wasn't silly high insurance... and I found a 216 coupe before I found a civic coupe.

2. Because the coupe looks nice, and the engine is honda... I just couldn't be bothered with K series HGs and wanted revvy, not torquey T

3. Something with a VTEC engine, or maybe a Beemer 325. Something powerful and nasp anyway... cant be doing with lag - way too irritating.

4. Yep, first car @21. Drove other peoples cars til I finished uni.

T16 turbos really don't suffer lag IMO. The only time I've noticed it is pulling onto a roundabout in 3rd gear at 1000rpm then having to mash the throttle as somethings nipped round a bit quick. Then by the time you get the burst of acceleration you wanted it's all over. But that's completely driver error ;)

It would be interesting to hear from some more of the international members. As I understand it, rovers are neither cheap, plentiful or easy to fit part/expertise for in other countries. So their reasons for choosing one must be more compelling than the average brit owner. We've pretty much all put "value for money" as one of our answers :D

1 & 2 - My last 5 cars have been turbos and i had a grand to spend when i was looking for my next car.
I was going to get an escort then my firend said about the tomcats which i hadnt even considered. The same friend Found the tomcat turbo i drive today. It was in mint condition , had some mods and was soooo cheap i just had to have it!

3 - I wouldnt have any other rover i only like the tomcats , if i change it which i have no plans to do after near on 2 years of ownership id probably go for a gt4 or evo.

4 - no , my first car was a fiesta 1.1 :)

1.) I had had a series of Audis and Alfas ending with an Alfa 145 2.0TS Cloverleaf that cost me about £5000 for a year's motoring - it was a dog. After that, utterly disillusioned with modern cars, I bought a 1979 MGBGT that I drove for two years without fault or failure - a simply fantastic little car. Prior to the last MOT, I checked her over and found the median sills had gone - a job way beyond my pocket to correct, so I sold her on and had to get a car for close to the money I got for the MG. I decided to look at Rovers as they were among the price-range I was looking at and are known for their amazing reliability.
2.) My daughter was looking through the listings for Auto Trader and found a 220 Coupe. She liked the pillarless doors and the Targa roof. Her comment that "that's a sort of modern version of your old MG" set me to look at it and, having looked it over, I bought it on the spot.
3.) Possibly a P5 or P6 V8, 827 Coupe or 600 Turbo. The 220 Tomcat is a unique motor car these days. The block was designed in 1957 (BL B-series, the same as my old BGT lump) and the twinky head is pure Honda, so you get good grunt up to 3000 rpm, a combined effort of torque and power to about 4500rpm and then you are wrestling the wheels up to the 6500rpm red line. A truly superb car to drive at any speed.
4.) My first car was a Mini with a spare engine - the engine fitted was an 850 van engine that I passed my test in, quickly swapped for the 1082 Cooper S motor that I fitted after the test. RDX 944 - humungous fun to drive, I wish I still had it, as it would be worth about £12000...

1]Cos they're silly cheap for what you get :D
2] Because it was there! Found dirt cheap with lots of goodies already on it, just needed a few bits doing so was silly not to.
3] I quite fancy a late Vitesse coupe, or a ZT or 75 is tempting next.
4] Nope, first car was a 58 Morris Minor ( no it wasn't brand new before those in the cheap seats start on the old-ist jokes  :P )

1. Cheap to buy, cheap insurance, good looks and features for the money .

2. Got my Coupe turbo just after my 18th bday :D. Had it 15 months now, done 25,000 miles and cost a shedload to keep on the road but ive loved every minute of it. Was hooked as soon as I got my 216 and new eventually I had to have a turbo.

3. When I finish uni and start work full time again, im thinking about a zs180 or nissan 200sx s14 touring.

4. 216 coupe at 17.
