This deserves quoting :D

I got my arse handed to me by a porsche 911 (unknown model, but new and shiney) in my first vit (standard). I caught up with him on the approach to a roundabout on a dual carriageway. We had a lane each and the roundabout was taken at sensible speed before booting it on the exit. We were side by side for a good 200 yards and then he suddenly pulled away :o I think he was toying with me!

Similar storey when I tried to shake an imprezza that that had been tailgating me through town, so I booted it off a roundabout when we got to the dual carriageway. He sailed past  I blamed the standard BMV and decided it must have been one of them 300bhp import jobbies ;)

I've also struggled to keep up with a 216 full of chavs (4 up) when in the vit. Those things are damn nippy at <40mph speeds

Closest run thing ever was a 30mph (in 3rd) to ~100kph blat down a dual carriageway with a new bmw 330. It was neck and neck until he gained a cars length as I changed up to 5th.

It sucks how people stop wanting to race you when you get a moderately ast car :( I'd like to try it on with a CTR and a domestic WRX

Ste's Evo 6 was in a different league to a Rover Turbo, even when she was standardish brake. Doesn't really matter on state of tune as long as it ain't fooked.

beg to dissagree. I had Sie and Jamez in my old 220 turbo and i was pulling away slowly from an M3 E46 off a roundabout.

I'm sorry to say, that keeping up with an Evo on the motorway is pretty poor comparison to a FWD turbo car. Evo's are poo mid range, they win purely on handling and acceleration. I can keep up with a veyron on a motorway  in the end its cruising at 70

I gave a Ferrari 360 a run for its money a while ago off a set of traffic lights, he hated the fact i pulled away from him with my missus waving out the rear window at him. Well he started it by revving his engine and posing with his sunglasses while his missus was laughing (why do they always bloody laugh?)

Not really played with much else, as it usually tends to bore me. I just like driving the car not comparing chipolata sizes.

Cause he has a Ferrari 8) lol

My old Rover was pretty awesome once rolling, stuck with a M3 CSL for 5 laps at Donington and the only time i really got my arse handed to me was against a C55 AMG Merc, that was on a pretty standard engine mind you. Highlight of my ownship of that car was the track day at donington, surprised a lot of car's that day, including a high powered Evo 8.

Agree with Steve though, I don't bother much now. Much prefer a quiet A-road all to myself.

You ever had one jump up and hit the windscreen right in front of you? I did in the XR2i. Do NOT let go of the steeringwheel and cover your head at 40 mile an hour! You WILL end up in a hedge.

To be fair, I'll have a pop at anything in the right situation. The only things that have really embarrased the turbo were high powered, expensive cars. The way I look at it though. I own my car outright, theirs is normally owned by a finance company.

I think with regards to the likes of 911s, M3s, focus sts etc it comes down to the drivers more. You can give a guy a veyron, but if he's a sh1te driver then you stand every chance of beating him. Similarly, give an awesome driver something with half the power of yours and you could end up being handed your donkey boy on a plate.
Jap import gone. Currently on the look out for another turbo though. PM me if you have a good'n.

Tony, agreed that the driver can win or loose a race :!: a good driver can pick the quickest lines, brake better, exit quicker etc...

IMO the best place for this would be racing track...
Most people would reckon that they are a 'good' driver, however on a circuit the good drivers are the ones that put in the quickest times :)
Smooth and clean is the best way to drive quick

quite right..remember when i got my tubby after having a fast car break for 5 years(points on licence) and been forced to drive slow cars like 1.4 astras.....i got beaten by an astra turbo. mostly cos i shat myself at the pulling power of the coupe at high speed and so backed off till i knew its limits
that was 2 days after having just got the coupe. i was most annoyed.

feel the need to destroy astra turbos when i see em now..and do :)

I annoyed a guy in his flash merc once, he was trying to push me down the motorway! I was going a "bit" over the limit to pass the slow 60mph people in the middle lane and he was sitting inches from my bumper, so I slowed down, then booted off, left him....slowed down to let him catch up and booted it off again, this time he tried to keep up and didnt!

But apart from that I havent had proper fun with any "chavs" or boy racer wannabes!!! For some reason, they dont wanna pick on me!

No idea why...Then again it could be because my car looks completely standard, and with no dump valve that they think im just an old man lol!
I drive a 1994 Rover 620 Ti, and my little toy, a Mk3 Honda CRX Vtec which is dead at the moment!

But Evos can only do 60 cant they?

My coupe isn't really quick enough to stay with anything powerful :( - best time was when I chased a volvo 850 T5 up a motorway slip road, he pulled away but not very fast... he was obviously annoyed that he didn't pull away quicker and went on to undertake cars dangerously on the motorway. I backed off sharpish then, bit of fun is one thing, but that was just silly.
Oh yeah, and I once stuck to an IS200.. seems they're exactly the same performance. They're not very quick but it's still satisfying staying with a car with over 40bhp and 400cc more.

Even my SOHC coupe can see off the likes of the chavs in their stupid little shopping cars though. I try and avoid playing up to it as much as possible though as they usually drive like idiots and I dont want to be responsible for encouraging their dangerous behaviour.
