Just come across this for some light reading-the bit about the JAP models still doesn't explain where the cars were for a couple of years though !

There used to be a coupe near me on steel wheels. No boot spoiler either. Used to see it most mornings when I walked to the station.

Guy who owned it kept it immaculate and he didn't look the type to have retrofitted steel wheels. Had an air of "my last new car purchase" about it.

So, in summary, I assume steel wheels were available on the absolute base mode 200 Coupe...

Cheers,

Malcolm

Jap export ones dont have F D H plates at all , theres a few on here and one in for sale for reference on that.

The supposed F D H cars that supposed to go to Japan have around 3 different registrations. Its just a coincidence that the majority were F D H.

What do they mean by 'traction control'?? I heard they had this years ago but dismissed it after not ever seeing any with it on.

LSD , rover marketed the limited slip diff as traction control.

There are many stories surrounding these vehicles, but with extensive research, Peter Fitzgerald, founder of Rover Coupe Owners Club, has been able to confirm the following facts:
Emissions regulations changed whilst these vehicles were in transit and the cars could not be sold without alterations so they returned back to the UK. It is not known for sure if they returned immediately as there was a three year gap from leaving to them appearing again.
The first I ever heard of the emissions theory was from Tommy of the "Ramraider Pit Crew Team" and I never saw it written on any of the Rover forums before this thread:
http://www.rt2468abcd.r8technology.co.uk/viewtopi ... 357#328357
I also wrote about the emissions theory here:
http://www.rt2468abcd.r8technology.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=45370
and more about the re-imports here:
http://www.rovercoupe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=341
The batch of vehicles left the UK, bound for Japan. The vehicles were specified with all the optional extra, such as the full leather trim set and air conditioning. They were built to Japanese regulations so featured KPH clocks, a flair in the passenger foot well and wheel arch extension trims.

They did actually have them fitte. All the proper jap imorts still have them aswell. Isnt it one of the jap road laws? When you brake down you have to set off a red flare behind the car.

Sigh.......

I love a good F.D.H debate.

Shame its always the same though.

Everyone knows the F.D.H's were better cars, built in Germany on the M production line, using technology from an Alien Race.

Maybe this explains some of Rovers build "quality"
A rover on the road is worth 4 in the scrappie

Someone seems to have edited it a fair bit from a while ago and deleted the link I put to the Rover 200 and 400 Owners Club website,..Not sure why or what it achieved, seems petty to me? :? I know there was some interest in that wikipedia section on the Rover Coupe Forum last month.

Did you put a link to the R8 club on the coupe page? I just checked and there's none there now, but there is a link on the 200 page.
I put in links to rovercoupe.net and rover200.net on both today, hope they stay there. :)

Yes back in october or november I placed it there (just put it back), It is just something I tend to do for some free advertising so to speak.

When I saw it mentioned on the rover coupe forum last month it was still there. Someone was saying why hadn't the coupe forum got a link when the R8 club had which is fair enough. However just looked now and the writeup has been edited shed loads and the link deleted. :( Ah well, back up now no harm done.
