If I were to break my Ti

Post by dave_d »

Just out of interest, I have noticed recently that there seems to be no real market for Rovers in general, even more so the 600's

So anyway, this led me to thinking....Since I wont get much for my Ti at the moment I am tempted to break it to make money on it for my new car I am after

What sort of market is there for parts, who needs parts, and what sort of prices do good engines and gearboxes go for?

Main things that are of any good on my car are the:
STAINLESS Exhaust from Cat back
wheels
Alternator as it was brand new
Gearbox as its not long had a rebuild
Engine as the head was reconned recently
Turbo
Air con stuff
Leather seats
and the body panels are relly good too

The car has recently flew through the MOT so most parts are really healthy but no1 seems really interested in it unless they can pay tuppence for it!!!

So what you guys think?

shame its not a post 96 one, otherwise id have several bits quicker than you could say "god damn rover keep changing stuff between years!".

dont forget if breaking a car, the space, time , and effort required to remove stuff.

I was thinking of breaking my Ti, but a decent late spec one on ebay could get about 800quid, so even with my problems, i could still fix it, and sell for profit if i go that route...

Too cold to be breaking a car at the moment. People only want to buy stuff when they can use it, so you might do better in a few months time if you decided to break it...

Why you want shot of it anyways?

I want something with more seats as I want to use it to go on Holiday and things like that, plus with growing family it makes it harder to get baby seat in the back along with another kiddie!

Plus I get bored of cars very quickly lol!

Breaking a car at the moment and maybe I've underpriced things, but I don't think you'll make a huge amount. And you'll have to wait around for people to collect big bits (or in my case my brother to help with swapping g/boxes...)

Had zero interest in my interior (except for random switches etc) or any panels. The rest won't earn you a fortune...

Given the weather (which seems to reduce demand...and therefore prices...), the good condition of the car and the hassle, I wouldn't do that in your situation. Especially if you could get £800 for the whole car (it's got a new MoT so is saleable).

Remember a similar age Mondeo or Vectra is not really worth any more. This isn't a Rover issue, but is an old car isse.

For me it was worth it as I am making 1 good car out of two (and only had to get over £200 to beat the payout my insurers would have offered - I'll do that, but not by much more than £50 or so).

I have also kept my brother's 827 on the road and still sold some bits (engine, zorst, suspension etc). Other thing to consider is carting the shell away if you will no longer be left with a rolling shell.

Bits you reckon you can sell are engine (best if complete including turbo and alternator etc loom I reckon), gearbox and exhaust.

The wheels are 16"? You may struggle there and the rest is down to fate. Start selling bits of the engine (ie. turbo) and you'll struggle to shift the rest...

All IMO,

Malcolm

I know, I know!!! lol!

I would prefer not to as its a great car but I dont like the fact that they are fetching peanuts at the moment!!!

I am going to advertise it as soon as and see if anyone wants it, if they do then all good, but if not then I reckon I will get more than what they are selling for....The prices I have seen them going for is about half of what I paid for the car!!! Its harsh as...

If someone was to offer me a good price then I would just sell considering the condition and amount of reciepts and work its had done to keep it up to date....Also, the fact that its had a new head, new valves, recon gearbox, brand new alternator, new windo mechs, and its got a new MOT its got to be worth something good to someone

Make it look nice, get some good pics, and do a good write up, you'll be suprised just what a difference that makes, I got a good price for my Ti, and I think a lot of that was down to the advert :)

Drop Craig a PM for his latest prices, it does help with the sale, trust me :D

i bought a heap of a Ti for £300 and made about £600 selling the bits.

and that didn't include selling the engine or gearbox.

but i think i was lucky with some of my sales.

took 3 days to strip it totally, then about a year to sell all the bits as not everyone wants bits at once!

infact i still have loads of it.

I don't think you will get as much breaking it as you think. I didn't when i broke my 220GSI.

Engine you will struggle to get £100 for complete with turbo head, etc.

Alternator is worth about 30 quid if your lucky

Gearbox 50 - 75

Exhaust 100

Seats are very hard to sell, maybe 50 quid for the interior if your lucky

Body panels, if your lucky and somebody wants one in your colour you might make a few quid but my guess is you will grow bored of waiting and scrap them all before you sell them.

Also it is quite sad to see a perfectly working car be broken, and most of the parts wasted for no real reason. Breaking requires a certain amount of effort and reasonable mechanical savy and some tool.

Putting an add in the paper takes 5 minutes and is as easy as picking up a pen. If yours is a nice ti with all the bits working and you sell it well, you could get £600 or maybe a little more

Its worth advertusing as a whole car, there are still buyers out there.
I was looking for a ti the other month, especialy one thats been well looked after.
But the vitty fell my way and it was too good to pass on.

It would be a shame to break a perfectly good car, theres some one out there that will buy it

Much less demand for early 620ti parts.

If the car is basically tidy and reliable for a 1994 with a decent length of MoT, a small carefully worded classified in your local paper can be surprsingly productive.
