What a relief - I survived emergency op

Post by GeraintUk »

Some may of clocked my urgence to do a will in a different thread ;)

I had a problem with what started off as a little boil on my neck out the blue. This quickly grew into several boils joined together which is called a carbuncle. Even with antibiotics it continued to grow and ended up as 4 inches by 2 inchs and i hadn't slept more than 6 hours in 4 days because of the pain.

Finally secumbed to Accident & Emergency and was instantly admitted for an emergency operation which I ended up having this morning.
Now I am the proud owner of a 5 inch open wound across my neck which is held open in parts by wax and gauze for the next six weeks.

Really knocked me for 6. Had so many tests and drugs and now finally have first comfort in over a week - oh how i'm going to love being able to sleep tonight ;)

So, here for a bit longer to annoy Grant, Neil and Andy ;)
I'll be down to unit tomorrow, as whilst i can't do anything myself, I can still get around (with the aid of the mrs as a taxi service) ;)

Might get pic of wound tomorrow (i ain't seen it) when I see district nurse (everyday for 6 weeks to have bandages swapped, yuk)

Cheers

Darn it - the backhander I gave the A+E staff didn't work.
You are obviously tougher than I thought.

the nurses weren't worth chatting up :(

or maybe for once, my pain over-rode my horn, lol

The reason it was an emergency is that becuase it couldn't exit the infection out of the skin, it stood a high chance of doing it internally into the bllodstream, and then it's toxic shock which is pretty dangerous.

The difference in me already is remarkable. Already got my plans to pick up exhaust tomorrow now ;) Well mrs is my taxi driver so i ain't doing any lunking about ;)

Got to say thanks to AndyR....I let him know I was out of action last night and he went and paid and collected my powder coated subframes on my behalf, so that they could fit them this weekend for me. Mucho appreciated ;)

Cheers

mrs was bugging me about doing will and where things were if i croked it.....i'm more concerned about having my subframes picked up ;)

Firm believer when your'e time is up, it's up no matter what.

Got 6 hours kip straight, which for me is excellent, just a bit achy on the actual surgery wound now, different kind of pain, but totally manageable, so popped a couple of paracetamol, and back to bed for a couple more hours now ;)

P.S - Mrs took a pick of the bottom of the bandage, and it's not pretty,,,filled up with horrible black pus,,,,yuk....but is to be expected first few days it'll weep a lot of gunk out, then it'll be less over the coming weeks. Gross, but at least I get looked after hand and foot - it's ace ;)

I reckon it's MTF94, it's in your blood... you sure the hospital didn't just replace your driveshaft seal?

I did notice the thread about your will and thought that it being 'urgent' seemd a bit odd... so it's good to hear you're ok 8)

Just had district nurse come round and replace the dressing, cleaning up the post op ooze.....my mrs nearly threw up and couldn't watch when the packing needed to be taken out and put back in.

It's about 3 inch long cut that's pretty bulbous, but apart from feeling a bit iffy each time I take the antibiotics, i'm really doing pretty well now.

Picked up my new exhaust this morning, but then had to come home as felt a bit rough from tablets.
I guess i'm just going to have to take it easy next week or so, and accept i'll be out of steam on a regular basis. Suppose I do have to catch up on a weeks lost sleep as well, besides recovering from being knocked out for the op.
Oh well, road to recovery starts here :)

Only 3 inches long ~ that's nufink mate.

The 'donor' scar on my inner left calf ( where they took the vein to construct the heart bypasses ) is FOURTEEN inches long! Which actually is more unsightly than the large wound in my chest . This latter however I'm pleased to report is actually healing up very nicely.

So, mines bigger than yourn ...:P

More seriously ~ get well soon mate. Those car-buncles can be a bit iffy!
