Nice, but even the standard ezza cozzie could'nt outdo the tomcat in a straight line.

Not true im afraid Christoph, Escos is slow as arse as stock, even the owners admit it, theyre about 1.8seconds slower to 100 than a 220 coupe turbo. But we're talking about an RST.

my Fiesta RS was fairly rapid at 207bhp amd wasted a lot of things which were quicker than a standard tomcat!

but a standard fiesta turbo compared to a standard tomcat will be useless

said in another post but my fiesta wasnt too tuned and kept 220 and 600 Turbos at bay...can depend on the drivers but perhaps fiesta and escorts act differently even with very similar engines.

mine was at 10psi and rolling roaded around 165 at the wheels

give him a go and see what happens

the main difference is the escort is MFi as opposed to EFi on the Fiestas, giving them better and easier tuning potential, also my fiesta was boosting at 19psi and peaking at 21psi

The EFi combined with the larger T3 turbo, biege injectors (bosch 701's)from a lancia delta, iirc, group A gaskets and a cossie fuel pump, made for a fairly rapid and cheap performance upgrade, all for uner £750

not including the usual exhaust and airfilter mods

indeed haha

see it like this.....both are quick cars..but i liked my fiesta and would never have had a cheesy essex escort rs instead

but in this thread alone are two rover owners who left behind RSTs for them ;)

jim i'd say you were rather lucky pushing that kinda boost mind.
I had mahle forged 7:1 comp pistons on mine and ran 17psi for a while...only took a few months before i had to strip it down and ended up with a piston that looked like cracked toffee.

Um, why not just keep it at 12psi, and avoid pumping more hot air in in the first place? ;)

mine does seem to give more of a kick on 14psi than 12..lots more wheelspin in the wet too :D

but i ran it like that for months and after the poll i posted above decided to opty for a little more sensible option]

i thought they needed silly amount of work done on them just to get near 200hp

zetec bottom end seems to be 1 of the common things?

cant remember seeing many 200hp 1.6's about in my ford days.

they deffo needed 5th injectors and forged pistons , lots of other stuff

the ECUs were crap imo and didnt compensate by increasing fuelling automatically or do anything much.

you'd definitely need em custom mapped, bigger turbo, actuator, injectors, chargecooler, alot of head work, uprated cam (yep only single) lower comp pistons, uprated gaskets, bolts, con rods and other stuff to get near 200bhp on the 1.6 cvh injected

i remember that ZVH engine but that was radically modded and mostly cossie parts

mine wasnt that modded and its responsiveness was far greater than the coupe i have now..i doubt it would match for top speed but upto 100 there wouldnt have been alot in it i reckon...still a lovely fun car in their standard form thanks to the tiny T2 but as an overall package the coupe destroys it.

Mine was stage 3

-31 actuator
T3 Turbo
Bosch 701 Biege injectors
Group A Gaskets
Escort Cosworth Fuel Pump
195 Superchip
Powerflow exhaust
K&N induction kit

might be more, was almost 4 years ago!

with a 2.1 ZVH (zetec bottom end and cvh head) your good for 300bhp!

Who cares which one is faster? Yours may be, his may be. As long as you're happy with your car then it doesn't really matter.

Turning boost up to 14psi on a std T16 in order to have a street race with a guy in an escort sounds like stupidity to me.

By all means do it, but dont do it on a road, and dont moan when your engine goes bang.

I find it quite amusing that people get really bothered about what random people say about their car. Who gives a flying f**k?

My mates just had his 2.1 zvh engine dyno'd and although he's keeping the power a bit of a secret at the min he has said its over 400bhp. 8)

What an old school thread!!

Reminds me of the Power Engineering 'System 2ltr' conversion. There wasn't much about that could match that. Many a high powered Cosworth was embarassed by my friends one

Not without hp to dispose of that torque. :P

Will a race really prove your car is better than his? Quicker or slower maybe, but better? Thats a matter of opinion. Owning a Rover you have to be ready for these remarks - i owned metros for years so i got pretty used to it.

The best place to find out who's is fastest is on the drag strip, or on a race track. The problem with comparing cars on the road is that often the most reckless driver "wins".

As for him shouting "scrap rovers!", it'll mostl likely be his dagenham dustbin that ends up in the scrappy first after failing it's MOT because the shocks are coming through the suspension turrets, the seatbelts are falling out of the bodywork and other such tinworm ;)
