Brobably a daft question but any replies appreciated..

It stands for noting at all, according the Cecil Kimber who founded the company.

He says it is inspired by, but does not stand for, "Morris Garages" (his car dealership) because if it WAS the initials it would be "M.G." with fullstops, not "MG" without them. I reckon that as the chap who set up the company, he knows best.

She's getting confused with MOWOG - which stands for MOrris-WOlseleyGroup. If you look at pre-1980 MGs, you will see MOWOG stamped all over engine components etc.

It's MOWOG because the design of those components dates back before Austin merged with Morris at which time Austin and Morris effectively formed the (surprise surprise) Austin-Morris group.
