Do certain cars attract bad karma?

Post by daz500 »

Case in point : I drive my Rover 600 for years and not a thing happens but I drive a:
1) peugeot 106 and everyone wants to pull out in front it
2) bubble and everyone seems to want to drive into it

I have noticed that since driving a bubble, yes, people do seem to want to ram it. :o

Never had that problem with the 800s, for some reason.... ;)

It's all about road presence. Like if you're walking down the street and someone is walking down the street towards you with a spaniel on a lead, you don't think twice about it. But if its a rottweiler or a doberman, you might consider getting out of the way...

I remember Autocar did a feature about something like this, apparently Volvo340 and the old Micras were the worst cars to drive around in as people automatically hated you as these cars were often driven by folks who drive around slowly and non progressively.

Am surprised the 200 bubble experiences aggression

It's not so much agression (I borrowed a Golf GTi for a while, now *that* brings out murderous agression in other drivers!), more the fact that you seem to suddenly become completely invisible. :P

Coupe is a tit magnet. (and not of the female or flying type) Everyone thinks you want to race.

My mate had a BMW 328. Nobody ever let him out in traffic, everybody tried to overtake him and he eventually got so pi55ed off that he sold it.

I guesss if you look at the statistics, certain manufacturers probably sell more cars in green (or BRG) than others.

Manufacturers like Jaguar, TVR, and makers of various K-series engined cars like Rover, Caterham, Lotus etc.

Is it any wonder green cars have a reputation for poor reliability?

Selling it was a drastic measure?!

I've noticed a big difference in having an 800, much less likely to get tailgated than when I had the 200 coupe or the mondeo.

the 600 seems invisible, but in a way that people just ignore you

no dodgy glances, no boy racers bothering me and nobody overtaking me (thats normally due to me though)

but i have noticed a tendency for old folk to let me out at junctions :D

The 420 turbo seems fine. Most people are confused as to what it is so tend to leave me alone.

I get the odd chav trying it on, but they do that all the time to everyone, same for white vans which seem to think they can out drag anything.

I dont get tailgated because im usually going faster than everyone else anyway and the exhaust is so loud no one ever fails to notice me so i dont get pulled out on.

Don't get any grief in the ti but do in the 216. I just don't drive that quickly in her. It's not that I can't it's that I just don't feel the need.

When I had my Cupra R i had everybody wanting to have a go which done my head in after a while especially when I had the wife and kid in the car..

I used to have a Skoda Favorit 1.3 to go back and forth to work for about a year and everybody wanted to be in front of that. Even though it was only 67 bhp it was geared for acceleration so was quite rapid up to 80 and used to surprise a hell of a lot of people including a choclate boy and his mrs in a new mini cooper but that's another story. Miss that car.

the 800 is most respected i think, people always used to let me out at junctions...

600 isnt quite as good, but its middle of the road...

420 just blended into the background like it wasnt there, literally, some bloke just reversed into it one day...

Always used to have people trying to have little burn up in the metro GTi.

I must admit, if I am coming up to a junction and there's a car waiting to pull out I'll usually let them go if I like the car, or if there's a lovely big busted blonde behind the wheel.... if they're ugly or the car is crap I generally dont let them out.

I really dont know why, it's kinda subconscious.

So yeah, different cars get different reactions.

When I first got the accord I noticed people would let me change lanes in slow moving traffic a lot easier, in the rover I'd be waiting much longer before anyone would let me in.

It's true! I had to deliver a new 3 series this morning, place was on a busy main road, so I pulled the truck up in a side road and unloaded it there, necessitating me then having to get across main road to company I had to deliver it to, you know no one let me out! I sat there ages waiting for a gap! Yet, when I came out in the lorry I got let out virtually straight away...

Driving a noisy 1.8 L rover 100 really attracts the wrong kind of attention  ... but i love it :P

I don't get many boy racer / modified cars trying to race me really, its usually the age 30+ boring car types, who feel the need to proove themselves by overtaking (or trying to) a modified rover 100... It seems to make other drivers become aggressive, not let you pull out, not let you change lane etc... i feel sorry for them when they get severely done over by the rover - and then tailgate to get their own back
