Fastest speed in a coupe
Whats the fastest anyone has been in their coupe ?
Im not interested in where or when as this will just cause trouble, just a figure will do.
GPS figures would be great.
Me:-
140 indicated no GPS.

had it off the clock on my hatch...
so i would sya about 150, as its reads 5mph at 130+ wich was done with my gps.
tbh i dont really do that kind of speed so i dont have a topspeed gps..
was still pulling too, but i bottled it.

Only been to around 130 in the coupe, was amazed how quickly it was still pulling. Had my wee 214Si bubble at 117 once lol, the poor thing didnt know what had hit it.

On one occasion had the needle right round the clock and still accelerating! The only opportunity I ever had to explore the car's top speed. Car had MG ZS 16" Hairpin alloys with Primacy tyres on at the time. Remarkably stable at that speed. Noticeably moreso than 125 indicated with OE 15" alloys and tyres. Very remarkable in fact. Tyres are so important. Like all former Rover TomCat Turbo owners, I miss the car...yer tis:

Apart from ZS alloys~Primacy tyres and rear spoiler removed, car was bog standard. None of my R620ti could approach that exceptional 'one off' top speed run let alone whilst still accelerating. Surface, weather and wind direction all play a part with these one offs..

Multiplying those Kilometre per hour totals by 5/8ths gives fairly accurate Miles Per Hour Figures:The Tahiti Manalishi wrote:I've seen 200 on my clock.
240 in the ti.
240 x 5/8 = 150.
200 x 5/8 = 125

......Arrrrrggghhhhh.........off the clock, in no doubt it will hit the limiter in 5th on a flat, so while I've not done it, whatever the real speed is at 6700 in 5th (220 box) on 195/55 15's
0-153.0 in 1.2 miles at TOTB4 on a lesser spec (only ran 13.5 @ 108 that day), speedo's are WAY out at that speed, mine had been sat on the needle for a good while before I got to the line.

Your passenger took pictures of you doing 150?216si wrote: pic not taken by me obviously
Man I seriously hope that was on the track, it's foolish enough to even do that speed on the road let alone picture it.

I couldn't make out what the speedo reading was, bit blurred, but 150mph at 5800rpm ? Fairly tall gearing isn't it? Or have I gotten too used to a close ratio Toyota box? Celica does 117mph at 5600rpm in 5th.C2K wrote:Your passenger took pictures of you doing 150?216si wrote: pic not taken by me obviouslyWe know it's you as your alarm LED is blue.

Once i took my GSI (OK its a hatch) to the limit racing a bike ( on track..), with a 620ti box on i was just blipping the limiter when the outer CV spat the drive shaft out....(snapped destruction type thing!!) Whatever speed that would be??
The outcome was two blown out tyres after spinning twice, not being able to drive the car hard again (me not the car) etc etc, the main thing learnt was...Don't bother, yes they can all do it but do we need to
This is not a "dont drive fast" reply.
Edit: saying all that at least the GSI had air bags and a bit of protection...Metro = pain!!!!!

Lol, exactly, a bit of wheelspin and you'd stop it - it wouldnt shoot off flat out hahaSteve220 wrote:yeh, you'd hit the brakes and clutchPunx0r wrote:Can you imagine what would have happened if it'd wobbled off he stand?216si wrote:

Simply, as typically static friction has a higher coefficient than dynamic, the car will take off slower with the wheels spinning than with a normal good launch. Rev your fwd car to the limiter, even in 2nd, drop the clutch and full throttle, you'll launch at a pathetic pace! No doubt you'd shift forward but not far before you hit the brakes and clutch!Punx0r wrote:Regardless of what the engine's doing, you've got energy stored up in the wheels which are going silly speed. I wouldn't bet my life on, but I reckon it'd take off at some speed!
Ever seen a vid of a car jumping off a RR?

I know it won't be a perfect launch, but there's no way I'd stand in front of it, or do it remotely near other cars/buildings. I'm not saying it can't be done without inviting certain disaster, but if someone might think it's a good idea to try and not realise what could happen
