216 coupe
im looking at a silver 216 coupe with tbar roof atm in a local garage. it has the mg streights on it (i think thats what there called) and black half leathers,
ive only looked at the outside as it was dark and nobody was there.
i beleive these are honda engined,
what i want to know is any known problems with these before i buy, also the reliability of the engine. and what sort of performance am i looking at from it.
any answers would be much appreciated, might go back up there tomorow night and get some pictures

The K series didn't have the black interior though. Just ask to have a look at it when the garage is open, they're not going to refuse a potential sale.
As for performance, the Honda and K series engines are pretty identical in performance, both hovering around 110bhp, the difference being the Honda lump will more than likely be the SOHC single cam engine and the K series is a twincam engine.
Both engines can be perfectly reliable if looked after, the more history the car has the better really.
Look for rust around the wheels arches and along the sills, and if theres water in the spare wheel well in the boot. Also see if theres any water in the handles for the sunroof. You could also check to see the state of the rear trailing arm bushes as well as these are a common MOT failure once they're knackered after a good few years use (mine have lasted the life of the car until they failed the last MOT and were replaced).
Don't be put off by any of the above as they're generally easy and cheap fixes, but if any are present then use them to barter the price down
How much is it up for sale for?

well i went for another look tonight and took my torch with me
overall the body work isnt too bad.
has a very small rust bubble on the drivers rear arch, a small scratch on the passenger rear arch. but doesnt dent the panel at all. the front bumper has been changed at some point with a green one and then spayed the correct colour and now its flaking, although only in a few small places.
looking under the car from the back all looks very clean and solid, the powerflow back box is abit bodged on. but not damaging the car in any way, and is blowing a little so will haggle with that,
again looking underneath from the sides is very clean again.
but looking from the front there is an oil leak from the engine and has a small patch under the car. so ill have to look at that before i get any money out, also the engine apears to be on the passenger side so to me thats a honda engine.
is there any things too look out on with the honda engine, and any well known places for oil leaks?
cheers

Hey good time for buyers though.
well i test drove this car today, it drives realy nice, handles well, stays streight if you let go of the wheel, the engine pulls well, no rattles or knocking, had a wind noise at one point though,
and there is water in the boot on the passenger side,
that could cause this ive heard of the rear lamp seals leaking?
but other then that its sice and im going to buy it soon
