Re: gti 1
Best Rover I have ever owned was my 420 gsi turbo. Loved the whole sleeperishness (new word!) of it. Also always liked the shape of the coupe.

620Ti. biased ofcourse.
Best shape and best interior. |good sleeper. Handling is'nt that bad and mine is'nt lowered yet. Ok, its never gonna be that good with a bus like wheelbase and has the turning circle of a oiltanker, but these things are not that important to me seeing as I never even get to drive it to its limits..Its too nice an example to rinse the hell out of it.
Joint second would have to be the ZT260 and the SD1 v8 twin-plenum.
I only really like medium-big sized cars, if you had'nt already guessed. lol

For me it has to be the Rover P6. The car combines modern luxury and safety with a superb engine (the Buick V8) and the simplicity of maintenance of a classic car. The handling does leave a little to be desired with the De Dion tube at the back - particularly if it is worn or the top link breaks away from the boot floor!

Agreed. While I'm a big fan of the 800s, in particular post-facelift Mk2s (not biased there), I do love the 220 GSiT. A mint example, in Flame Red would be just my cuppa. As well as the 'Tesse, of course.

OR

Re: Which is your favourite Rover and why?
its gotta be my tomcat turbo, we have a love hate relationship.
i love her, but she hates me at the moment!!
And a close 2nd, 200 vi/brm, so surprisingly quick for a hatch.
And how can i forget the TI, love her to bits, even making her pretty now

Re:
Biased i know but got to be the turbo coupe crap suspension but with a sub 7 second 0-62 and 150 mph its got to be that one.The added bonus is when you say "i drive a rover"and they give you the whole prejudice rovers are crap thing(as they are always people that know nowt about cars) and then you show it to them and they look gormless as hell and give you that sort of non-believing/that can't be a rover/jealous look, its unbeatable. My mum says it was her MG Maestro Turbo Just when the "HOT" hatch golfs, xr3i's etc were hitting the 9sec 0-60 and 115mph along came this sweet humble little hatch that could litterally blow every other hot hatch(and lots more) out of the performance water. She says does anyone remember the advert for the non turbo maestro on all the bill-boards it had a maestro crossing a 0-60 style finish line with the quote:"The Golf GTi 16v will be along in a second"(in the days when you could say stuff and get away with it even though it was true).
Yes, I remember it well :~

A whole 1.2 seconds quicker ! That's quite a distance ....
When the 2.0EFi MG Maestro first appeared, the local dealership had a demonstartor and when calling to get some bits for my MG Metro there, trhe sales manager walked past so I asked him what the new MG was like ~ he tossed me the keys and I took it for a run ~ most impressed at the car's acceleration. Even by today's standards no slouch.

How did the turbo (in standard tune) compare to the EFI?

Approximately 2 Seconds faster to 60 for starters and higher top speed. On a Carb, not fuel injection ... all that twenty years ago when over rated Golfs were creeping about .... considerably slower .... :D
ETA : @ 00 40 ... What's wrong with this thread ~ ?? ~ No quote function and Images do not appear ..... Most Odd.

Re: Which is your favourite Rover and why?
Ive decided to go for the 800 vitesse sport.
Infact it was so good it dictated what both myself AND my girlfriend got to replace it.
It has the best steering feedback ive felt on any car ive driven, its also the only car ive driven that empty or full I could extend to 9/10ths and feel compltly secure.
Its also huge, tough and reliable.
Its not just my fav Rover, id go as far to say its the best car ive ever driven all in.
Maybe if I could drive it again now i might have a different view, but it more than lived upto my expectations and did everything i wanted of it.
