Re: Privet plates?
To transfer any plate both vehicles must be taxed and MOTed. So looks like you're stuck if the car has been scrapped!

Re: Privet plates?
if the car is crapped then usually no. but if you got a destruction certificate. then you have to appeal and maybe take it.

Re: Privet plates?
i havn't declared it as scraped yet so ive still got log book, MOT and the DVLA say it dont need to be tax'd aslong has it has no gap from TAX to SORN, witch it hasn't,

Re: Privet plates?
Hey Mat,
So if the normal one isnt the one your selling, whats the reg of the private plate? Could gauge if its worth going through the expense and hassle then?

Re: Privet plates?
Right brought a coupe and broke it and it had a private plate on so my brother wanted it so we went n swoped it over,
now the new 1 has came back, so is this now classed as a private plate and can it be transferable as it come with some paper work?

Re: Privet plates?
From my limited understanding, once you remove a plate from a vehicle and DVLA issue an age related plate to replace it the new plate then becomes non-transferable. This is certainly what happens with non pre/suffix plates.

Re: Privet plates?
Cherished plates are transferrable, plates allocated by the DVLA are not.

Re: Private plates?
You cannot sell the plate the dvla has assigned to you but you can still sell the private plate that was originally on the car as long as it had mot like 6 months ago. I did the same on my old rs turbo - it came with a nice plate (it was standard but read d77ram so alot of the indian folks liked it as ram is a common name in india like smith apparently) so even though the rs turbo didnt have an mot or tax they still let me transfer it over.
I feel the need................. the need to boost!
Re: Private plates?
You can not sell a DVLA issued plate. But a private plate is yours and if it's off the car you must pay a retaining fee to keep the plate, if you want to sell a private plate as long as you have the paperwork you can wether it's on a car or not.
Please note that the DVLA has the right to recall ANY plate if they think it's being miss used.
