worst crash you have ever had

Post by retro620ti »

Ok after seeing that post on NCAP ratings i got to wondering on how i managed to live through some of my worse moments......these are my two worst

1, Ford cortina mk2, three lane road with access for both lanes to middle for overtaking, I pulled out to overtake a truck and as I was half way past a truck a small way down the road decided to pull into the middle lane to pass a caravan....my only memories are of slamming on the brakes locking up and then bang :x .Come round a while later car is doing an impression of an accordian and I am swimming in blood from having the top of an ear ripped off and my head impacting the A pillar...THANK YOU LUCKY ANGEL.

2, Audi coupe, long right hand curving bend, blow out on rear left and car slews into edge, try to correct and overcompensate and end up going airborne via a cornish hedge.....last memory the sky rotating slowly. After bouncing the car took out 1 telegraph pole and came to rest half way into a farmers field.THANK YOU AUDI ENGINEERS.

Sometimes i think i am so unlucky in life and then i remember what i have managed to walk (hobble) away from and maybe i have been lucky in other areas. :D

Mini 1000 : Just got it back from having new brakes on it, and was following my mate back home (who had took me there to get it in his dads Escort Mk4).
In the wet, i didn't realise the difference brakes made that actually worked and when my mate stopped in front, i locked up and went into the back of his dads car.
Must of only been 20mph. Plastic bumper on escort had a crack, and the boot lid had a slight bend.
Mini = both wings, both headlights, bonnet, front panel, rad and engine had moved backwards and snapped an engine mount...eeek.

Granada 2.9 Ghia X : The tank as it was affectionately known that i learnt to drive in. Pulling left out of a junction, car coming down the main road, overtakes a minicab and takes the front end off the granada.
She (yes it was a woman) was pis*ed up and tried to do a runner, minicab followed her and found out where she lived, along with car covered in the granada's paint.
Brother (pr*ck) insists we go to police station instead of him staying where her car was (as he was banned). 3 hours later at police station (friday night, usual pub fights) we get to said house, and oh what a surprise, the car had gone, and reported stolen the next day.
Good job for fully comp. That wasn't the end of the story, but for fear of incrimination, we'll leave it there, lol :)
Granada only needed a wing and headlamp, and according to taxi driver he was doing 50 when she overtook him. Again was a mk4 Escort, and this time that was fubar.

Goes to show. there is always a bigger harder car around, lol
Now where's my Hummer brochure :)

Only ever had the one, apart from the odd nudge from behind at traffic lights.
Was coming down a line of parked cars in a back street after popping out to get the bosses lunch :? when an Escort van pulled out of a space right in front of me. Knocked his bumper end cap off and smashed the headlight/indicator but made a hell of a mess to my 2 week old company car
Got back to the showroom, the guv'ner was fuming! Not the fact that the brand new Lada Samara demonstrator (only just been released, so you work out how long ago it was! ) was fubar'd but his chips were stone cold

Granada Cosworth (Dad's company car  ) Sunny day around the outskirts of Edinburgh. A long left hander, just about on the limit of traction, rear kept wanting to break, learner driver, in a Mk1 Fiesta light blue, over the white line, cutting the corner  . Instinct slammed brakes and turned to avoid, back end went out, tried to correct, poorly I might add, rear went the other way, and hooked into a 2ft ditch, vaulted over the hedge next to the ditch, landed on all 4 wheels. Just remember wondering why i'm in a field, and try to start the car and drive off  .

Driver of the Fiesta, stopped, and said it was all my fault. Fortunatly a car following the Fiesta backed my story up and she was well and truly srewed.

Anyone else who has had a bad crash, do you remember nothing but complete silence. Apparently when I crashed their was screeching bangs and everything, all I remember is utter silence.

Coupe Turbo, Nov 2003. Car infront slammed its anchors on, Slammed mine on the ABS light went ping and came on .... No brakes wet road, 50MPH - went for the big field to my left (due to thought i can save the car & the car infront had a child on board sign) slammed into the lamp post with I didn't see (never really looked for it) and barrell rolled the coupe down the road ended up on the driverside. Got out through the roof. Injury was a small bruise on my right knee where the coin holder disappeared. Car - Front end & drivers side buggered up. Left & roof un touched. Oh and after the slow mo action had ended I was the one who had to call the police because the woman who was behind me was in shock as was the guy in front.

Was Very Lucky. 1 to not be seriously injured (police guy said it was because of my size (6'5") so i didn't bounce around the cockpit) also if I had gone off the road a couple of meters earlier the lamp post would have enetered the car at 50mph through the drivers door.

Chris

No car crashes but i had a nasty bike crash a few years ago.

Going to work one morning lovely sunny morning sun low in the sky effectively blinding me,car turning right in front of me ,didnt see it till i was about 10 feet away cos of low sun and being half asleep
Doing about 40mph then suddenly seeing a stationary car right in front of you is not recomended...that fraction of a second before impact was surreal, seemed like an age..remember everything still.
Slammed on the anchs, backend lifted up,front wheel went right under the Civic`s bumper(after bending it quite a bit)and the bars slammed to the stops banging my right thumb on the tank so hard that i lost a nail through kevlar reinforced gloves, bike then jacknifed about its steering head slamming me sideways right into the back of the civic`s hatch...bike then slammed into my balls and right leg and bounced back about 5 feet.
And yes i felt evey god damned painful moment of it...was in plaster for 4 weeks for a damaged knee and severe bruising down the right side of my body and black and blue balls.
Back of Civic was fubard...Fireblade was only cosmetically damaged...forks wheel and frame unaffected...was back on road again shortly after being able to walk again.

2 both in my saxo.

1st hit curb after turning at a junction skidding on ice £800 worth of damage.

2nd Driving too fast and cocky in the ice again 1 year later to the day.
Overtaken 3 cars at non legal speeds got back in travelling at above national speed limit for a mile approaching 20mph s-bends braked locked up rear end got down to 40ish but had to go round bend let go of brake turned right lost backend over corrected lost back end other way mounted grass verge sliding sideways back towards road turn towards road straightend up all i had left to do was roll to standstill back towards road but no tree was in the way hit head on at 40mph. (i say tree, but was more like a twig) Written off saxo engine shifted back 3 inches airbag popped and yes it did go in slow motion actually watched airbag explode then implode seemed to take 5 seconds my head never touched the airbag though coz the seatbelt pretensioners were too good and stuck me rigid to the seat. BMW driver (i overtook) stopped asked how i was and correctly stated serves me right for driving like a *sniff* I love u!. Police turned up said i failed a breath test then said they were pulling my leg. Thankfully had no charges against me.
Had i not turned the vehicle back towards road I wouldnt be here now coz it woulda hit the car side on at drivers door.
Accident was made worse due to ice AND silly french engineering I had the saxo lowered by pro's not naming company but they forgot to reset the brake bias valve on the rear torsion bar so my lowered empty rear end thought it was full of gear so applied more rear brake under heavy braking hence rear lock up.
Still i'm here now and have learnt a lot i drive a lot safer now.

17yrs old, 95mph didnt see the "warning strong winds at times " sign and in a rediculously windy storm got blown into the armco over corrected into the slow lane, into a discovery then into armco on the otherside ( it was a raised part of the m11) car spins nose over donkey boy one and a half times, then lands vertically on its boot/rear bumper and slowly rolls/crashes forward onto the wheels. Discovery flipped over the central armco!!!Guy in n astra said "jesus i thought you had to be a ghost to walk out of that". :? :( Total inexperience

18 yrs old Doing 30ish mph down a village road, women turns across me without indicating, apparently i was 8yrds away according to my skid lines, not wearing seatbelt and smashed through the windscreen then slumped out the door, unconscious for 31mins, came to with her crying and saying "im sooo sorry the sun was in my eyes im soo sorry" and being stretchered into an ambulance, according to the paramedics i was saying " i only got these rims 3days ago" haha it was an experience anyway.

MG Maestro 1600. Travelling along at 60 mph just north of Midhurst. Car pulls out and clips the rear of my car. I lose control and hit the bank on side of road. Car is launched into the air and flys over some spruce trees (approx 5 metres tall) and lands nose first in wooded area before coming to rest on passenger side, some 15 metres from road. I climb out without a scratch - just a sore chest from seatbelt. Walk back to road and greeted by horrified onlookers who were too scared to come and find me as they expected me to be dead. Someone was certainly looking down on me that day!

Only ever been in a crash as a passenger in a mk1 800; T-boned by a mk1 golf at ~30mph; undid seatbelt and was sheparded into a nearby shop whilst folks helped the guys in the golf. Seatbelts are only so much use when the engine/box/subframe are on the floor 50m from the car and the front of the golf is sitting where the bulkhead used to be; 800 was hit square on the bulkhead/front wheel/subframe/engine (generally well-crunchy bit) and though skewed a couple of inches sidewards drove its sorry self onto the flatbed and that was the end of that as they say!

Never been a fan of small cars since funnily enough; perfectly happy when there's only me about on the roads; but not whilst I'm sharing it with full-size cars (or you guys by the sounds of it!)

Had one minor and one major crash in my car's. The first wasnt my fault, Mk2 Fiesta decided to suddenly stop on a roundabout a few seconds after pulling away. Was in my 1.3 Maestro at the time. Fiesta was a write off, back wheels touching the bodywork, completely crumpled. Maestro has a cracked bumper and bonnet slightly pushed back. Drove home, slide hammer here and a push there, job's a good un, drove to work the next day

The 2nd was in the Turbo, i was very unlucky due to a combination of factor's of wet road, covered with diesel, poor tyres on the back (despite good tread, had hardened with age) and odd shock absorber's on the back. I only had the car a month and it all happened too quickly, as i say, very unlucky and to this day people think excess speed was the cause but it wasnt, i was still in 2nd gear...Won't go into too much detail but car ended up on its roof, i had a cut on my leg but nothing else and my friend had no marks at all.

To this day i thank the good solid basic structure of the car, the doors would still open :) When people say these car's are unsafe they dont know what they are talking about, as i speak from personal experience i know they don't just fold up like a Metro :|

Any car is unsafe driven too fast and hitting something solid like a tree, a heavier car or what have you. To this day i don't go round corners fast in the Turbo despite everything being replaced, you never know if it may bite again, and touch wood, i've had an accident-free 4 years since then.

Travelling at about 140mph in this really modified Golf and suddenly this arsehole in a modifed Skyline slides out infront of me,were both travelling the wrong way of the motorside too!! Then this anus of a white van driver(travelling the correct side of the road) piles straight into the front of me and i do about 33 flips..

But thats enough of need for speed on the PS2..

i was travelling down the motorway in the third lane but due to it raining i was doing 65-70mph at most when i noticed the car infront starting to swerve side to side in the lane. i thought it looked dodgy so i started braking when all of a sudden the yaris infront of me lost control, she (woman driver!) lost her back end spun round hit the crash barrier and faced me! i tried moving out of the way but her car was travelling towards me. she hit my drivers side door i can remember the impact but not the glass flying through my car into the passenger seat. next thing i know i've come to a stop and remeber sitting there thinking s**t my cars been done then quickly padded myself over to check i was alright all i had was a tiny tiny scratch on my hand from some glass. i got out my car looked behind me and this lorry was sittinh about five meters from my car when the guy jumped out and said "your lucky mate i nearly smashed into you" i thought damn straight i would've gone flying. i was in a ford fiesta si and luckily it had side impact bars other wise things could have turned out worse! i know iwas being watched by someone above that day

Been in one or two.....

Passenger in a Rover 213, joining a dual carriageway, moved to overtake the Artic got up to about the back wheels of the tractor unit and he moved out to let a bus out of a bus stop, not seeing us... My m8 hit the brakes and we almost made it, the rear corner of the trailer caught us, I had the window down as the rear bar came in it, I had to clamber/jump/scramble in a panic half onto the handbrake, half in the back of the car as the trailer took the top half of the door away, bent the pillar , shattered the windscreen and buckled the passenger door in against the seat. We ended up in the crash barrier but luckily all unscathed.

The police on the scene were tryign to keep light hearted "Who was sitting there then?" gesturing at the passenger seat, "I was", "it's ok, we've radiod for new underwear for you son"

Was driving my mums J plate 214Si when it got written off as well, turning right at a junction, filter light on, girl jumped the lights in an escort van at way over 30mph, took the back passenger quarter off, buckled the chassis, caved te boot in, split the petrol tank a tiny bit etc etc and I was spun roudn 180 degrees to land in the road I was turning into, facing back out the way.

So, thats 2 write offs, both in Rovers, without a scratch (214 Si left me with an achey back etc for a day.)

Have also been in a Fiat Panda that hit a tree head on in the snow, luckily at about 20mph max, which was scary, Fiat didnt fair too well.

And you lot reckon that girls are the worst drivers !!

I've had a couple of bumps but nothing really major. Obviously wrote off my flame red coupe turbo just before Christmas as someone drove in to me head on (I have to admit it was my fault though) at approx 40mph. No one injured and he wasn't insured anyway and his car had no tax or MOT. He was about 12 years old I think !!

I parked next to a skip once and a piece of angle iron sticking unseen from the top scratched the letter 'e' into my Metro's roof.
Thats as bad as i've had :) (touch wood)

My mate crashed into the back of a fiesta that pulled out in front of his 405 going at 50 (in a 60 zone). The old boy in the fiesta tried to drive off after with the car 4ft shorter. We had to run after him, obviously he didn't get far! His wife said "we were going to the opera". We said "Not now your not, we've called the police" :)

Mine must be when i killed my mk2. On a road i new well i decided to do a full on attack of a notourisly difficult corner (tight, 90degree left with savage curbs either side). I was upto about about 125 in 4th when i realised i was way past my normal braking point i use from 90mph. THe road is heavily cambered and i was left doing some mental cadence braking trying to pull down to 30mph in 50yards...... obviously i coudnt, as a last resort i turned the car in early to scrub a few more mph off (i still thought i was going to make it if i played my cards right!).
Then it was whack into the curb and thud into the grass embakment beyond it, i was still doing a fair speed (prob about 60) so had good momentum and i decided to try and get the car off the bank and onto the road and off home! as it happend the car was so fooked i just had no control left and had to let it go where it felt! which was back into the road 40 yards off the exit to the corner :?
I then jumped out and sprinted home for the spare! well, a tow rope and 4x4 anyway!

Was an awesome ride, but had anything solid been in front of me i woudnt be here. And sadly thats one less GTi turbo.

I was 18, metro with a tuned 1.3 lump, I had just run it in
I was taking it easy when my mate Ant kept winding me up calling me a lion o and to put my foot down -so I did.
Approaching colchester down a bad hill clingo hill I was up to 110mph then an woman pulled straight out of the slow lane without indication or warning.
Slapped on the anchers but ploughed into the back of her car went sideways hit a bad bump then flipped over and flew for about 100 metres before landing on its roof hitting the kerb and rolling several times down the bank

Car looked pyramid shaped but stood up quite well every panel bashed, battery etc flew out the car and covered us in acid but we escaped in the ambulance with only cuts and bruises, calmed down for a while after that...

Ah foundout after the crash that the car had already had a new roof before! as it was seam welded -maybe why it stood up quite well :o

And a few heart in mouth no brakes moments in the tomcat at 140+mph!

Hi,

When I was about 16, I was lying across the back seat of a Datsun eating a chip bap (120Y I think, it's a fair few years ago) when my brother, who was driving, and an Audi of some description decided to drive head on into each other, I hit the front seats and bent them both seriously outwards, the passenger one with my knees (ouch) and the drivers one with my forehead (I had a headache for a few days and still have the scar). Worst concern was that I had a crate of beer in the back and I thought I was going to get done for underage drinking....

Second one with my brother again, he was driving a Volvo 240 and hit the back end of a Bedford Van, the doors flew open, the floor buckled and the exhaust basically fell off, the Volvo however had a broken indicator lense and a slightly dented bonnet  I caught the full force of the seatbelt across my balls....

Third painful one.... stopped letting my brother drive when I'm in the car after the second one, so hasn't happened yet

Cheers

I'm still not sure to this day, I was turning round at the time to get something from the back seat, but all I really remember is that 'Oh god, thats going to hurt in a second' feeling........ and that was it, bruised nads...

I was in my cousins 306 Gti-6 who was driving a bit fast, think he was trying to show off ;)

Anyway he overtook a car at the end of the straight down the lanesand couldnt get the speed off quick enough after he go back onto his side of the road. Ended up going through an S bend type corner at about 50mph which was all good and well until another car was coming the other way making my cousin lift off

Back end stepped out, he caught it but overcorrected and ended up spinning. Time went very slowly at this point and i did think i was going to die as there were a lot of trees about. We ended up going off the road backwards into a ditch and, according the the people we just overtook, rolling over 3 times in a hedge before stopping on the side of the car in a ditch full of water at the bottom of the biggest tree i have ever seen.

The people behind thought we wouild be dead . Luckily the 306 has a pretty strong roof and we were relatively unhurt after climing through the side window. Police and ambulance then came along and took us away to hosiptal.

I injured my shoulder on the seatbelt and knackered by thumb on the dash. My sis and other cousin were in the back and managed to bend the rear seats over by the force of the crash  My sistr also snapped her collarbone and got some pretty nasty gashs off a branch o twig which came through the side window.

We were all pretty lucky and i now don't really like driving through the lanes too fast.
