why are the roads these days...

Post by maestrovdpt16 »

So full of idiots?

Travelling back from t' market today, from Queens Park, up A1M, onto M25, road was very busy. I joined and went to the outside lane as it was moving quicker than the other 2 (just!) The conditions were terrible, rain/sleet/spray making very poor visability and grip was minimal. Taking this into mind I left lots of room ahead so I had good space to break as I could see it would happen at some point. Right enough as people stuck in the fast lane till the last minite to turn off for the A10 brake lights came up ahead. I broke, gently at first then had to hard break for a second.

Thoughtless idiots behind had no space, luckily not to crash into the back of me but their heavy braking sent one silver car off onto the hard shoulder, another yellow car braked and then snapped off the other direction sraight into the central reservation.

When there is obviously sleet and slight ice on the road why do these people not think the obvious?

The rest of the journey was uneventful thankfully but it did put me on edge. You could tell it was comming people just driving too close without due care.

Sounds pretty normal to me for the 25 sadly. Was down that way last week and it always seems the closer you get to London, the worse the driving gets. You are almost forced into tailgating the car in front, because if you leave a car length or even half a car length of space, somebody will undertake you and try and cut in. :x

The most ridiculous thing is, for all this aggressive lane changing and general dickery, at the next set of cones you catch them up and you are all sat there in a queue anyway, so what is the point?

I can never get over the amount of brand new top end motors kicking about London with big dents and dings all over them. It would make me cry.

Yes, the code of london streets is a law I have had to bcome a master of  You sadly have no choice, drive like a granny and the whole road goes to undertake you! I don't mind that as it is the way it has always been. Driving at 30-40 is a different game to 60-70!

These spin offs were instant write offs with potential death for many! Seemed to be too much speed, not enough space and not enough driving experience to correct the brake lift off.

Iv'e noticed a lot of people seem to make no allowances when roads are wet/icy/snowy, they just drive as they normally would.

Then wonder why they crashed

They should put billboards up with pictures of real life accidents in certain areas, the more gruesome the better.
Or changeable ones to suit conditions.

You just become so aware of conditions with a turbo car. The air temp was really cold driving out. The sleet was dropping the road temp drastically so everyone's tyres weren't making the grip they were used to with the recent spring temeratures we were getting. I could tell something was going to happen as soon as I turned onto the M25. Usually give it a wide birth but it seemed the best way today.

It's always to poor buggers behind the couple of idiots I feel sorry for. Their lack of thought stops the road for everyone.

I'd go with led signs stating really quick facts about how much grip you have as the road temperature is XXdegrees so you have XX% grip.

Pictures would be another distraction!!

Part of my job as a telecomms engineer is driving all over the country to different cell sites and the level of driving on our roads is worrying, I had a white clio come past me when it was snowing the other month at ridiculous speed, easy doing 90 and I thought I was pushing it at 65, 20 minutes later the fast lane of the m1 was shut off and guess what the young lad had smashed into the central reservation completely wiping off his front end how he got out alive I have no idea

Well, they dabbled with gas turbine powered cars in the past, so were part way there :) .

Dunno. But it probably would have dripped oil on peoples' heads.

When we had snow here, i had a small brain overtake in the snow. He was in a big van. Part of me hoped that he hit black ice, flipped it, injuried himself, at least then he would learn.
