The final Mini leaves Longbridge

Post by james3990 »

I remember seeing the pictures of this car a few years back when it was discovered in the tunnels under the Longbridge factory.

It’s in a sorry state but I would also agree it’s a special car and should be rescued rather than to rot away any further, some would disagree due to the history and state of the car.

Anyway I've only just found this out but some mini fanatic from Birmingham has actually had the car legally removed from the tunnels before they are all blocked up and plans to restore it.

It might be old news to some, but some information on this can be found here to those interested - http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/news/ne ... ongbridge/

I'm split with this one would be great to see it restored to how it should have left the factory as the true lastini to leave longbridge and presented at shows for all to see.

But would also be a great addition to a automotive museum with the historical story it has.

Cars are for using.... love the fact a container hit it, so they hid the car

Good luck to the fella that is going to restore it :)

I lolled when I read the bit about the container landing on it, I remember when 28dl posted the pictures of it in the tunnel and wondered what the story was.

I'd go for restoring it with a Heritage shell, then showing it with the crushed one as a before and after type thing

Is this not a repost or am I thinking of another forum?

I think someone mentioned it on here but it was on MacDroitwich. I joined the MINI forum to follow its progress. many say it should be left as it is and many (including myself) would like to see it restored. They owner has straightened the roof a lot, quite a feat if you ask me.
