my final yr project

Post by poplar »

Hi,

I am looking for some feedback from potential users (you lot!) for what was my final year project.

Kameleon - Paintless Stone Chip Repair System

A short video (15mb) can be downloaded which gives a general overview of it. http://www.coulldesign.co.uk/paul/kameleon.mov

It is a consumer kit for repairing stone chip damage to bumpers, bonnets and wings. It all works ok, but I need to re-design some components to make it work perfectly.

The innovation comes in the form of 'paint stickers' - there is no paint involved. To keep it understandable the sticker is a co-extrusion or laminate of UV protection enhanced film and thermosplastic resin, which has 6 shades of the OE colour thermally transferred, is high-tak backed and the die cut to form a 8mm sticker-tab-thing. :D :?

Basically, I just finished it of for my degree a few weeks back, but now I am developing something that can be realised. I have two companies helping my develop the technical side of it, and a sposnor assisting the branding. Unfortunately my hard drive decided to lose my presentation work () all I have is my protoype and some pics.

I am looking for ANY feedback/comments, etc. I'm unbelievable busy tonight but I'll do my best to reply.

Thanks,

Paul

PS I mentioned a few weeks back about using a sectioned car in an exhibition. This is still on - I'm working on the sposnors livery at the mo, but want to use Rovertech too. (it'll most likely be a rover I Use). Can Bjorn/Lisa or someone give me permission to bung rovertech on it too?!

Dont mean to take the wind out of your sails here pal, but didnt Turtle Wax develope the exact same thing about 6 years ago until it became a market flop and so developed the wax stick instead?

There was something of the same nature around, and yes it was disaster because it was nothing more than a sticker. It stood proud of the surface and the colour match was aweful. As far as I'm aware they only made it solid colours, and paint technology has advanced a lot since then.

The Turtle Wax Stick is very good IMO...but isn't a permanent repair and again colour match is restricted to the normal blues, reds, greens, etc.

I carried out an 8K research document back in Oct which resulted in identifying a gap in the market for such a product. My contacts who are developing the technological/manufacturable side of things obviously wouldn't have gone ahead if the product had already been around.

This product takes things a lot further.

Thanks for the reply tho. :D
