Petrol prices
I was thinking of dragging up Geraint's old post about petrol prices rising but it seems to cause panic each time as people don't realise the thread was started several months ago.
So I thought I would start a new thread documenting price fluctuations over the months (and possibly years).
While I was paying around the 99 cent mark a few months ago I am pleased to see that the price has been gradually falling here since and now I am currently paying 89 cents (currently approx 62p) a litre in my local Texaco.
I know petrol is cheaper in Ireland but have you noticed a bit of a drop in prices over in the UK in the last few months?

I want to have a thread with a permanent record of petrol prices as they fluctuate over the months. It'll be really interesting to compare in a year's time George. I bet you a fiver you'll be hopping up and down with excitement over this thread by then.
Oh, by the way, you spelt sldfkfklserio32k4lj64tgo6nhsgokn wrong. It's a 6, not a 9 towards the end.

Yep it got cheaper about 2 weeks ago. Dropped from 79.9 to 76.9 here. Although yesterday I took the oppurtunity of the lower prices to fill up with optimax (81.9
). Never tried it in my car before, just wanted to see if I could notice any difference.

Surely someone must have a record of fuel prices, except the government, they don't want you to remember when it was only 62.9p per litre.

Off topic: But what do you do at shell?
I applied for the Shell graduate scheme the other day
i work on the refinery near chester, Stanlow Manufacturing Complex. I am an operator which basically means i sit on my arse for 8 hours out of a 12 hour shift looking at sites like this on the net and spend the other 4 leisurly walking round the unit making sure thinks are ok and get paid great for it but no free petrol!! swines!!!!
That when going is good though - if things break then all hell breaks lose and it should have been fixed yesterday sort of scenario!!!! (hence why we get paid well - for what we know rather than what we do!!! ) although i don't do the fixing just the bringing back online stuff!!
Good job though just shifts are a pain when they land on xmas day and boxing day days!!! or new years eve nights!!!
with that scheme i doubt you will do my job - to get what i do you have to do 3 and 1/2 year apprenticeship with nvq's and hnc's coming out your ears!!!!! you probably work at shell centre in london by sounds of it - an office monkey!! hehehehehe
that means you work while you in work unlike me!!! hahahahahaI might work for Shell but the gits don't give me free petrol!!! GGGRRRRR

Nah I have a degree in Engineering and the jobs look pretty hands on rather than office based. Even if i have to work i don't mind as the starting pay isn't bad though, £27k a year.
I've just applied to BP too.
Wonder who are best lol

( i get more though woohoo!!!! i love my job!!!!! hahahahahaha)

Petrol here has gone up this week. At my local petrol station which is always one of the cheapest, it was at about 96 cents a litre for the last few months. Now it is around the 101 cent mark and most other petrol stations are selling regular 95 unleaded at 103 cents or more.
Has there been a similar increase in the UK?

Subject: Petrol Prices!
I don't like chain letters but this is an interesting thought.
Petrol Prices!
Nice idea in principal! Not sure if it will work again but here
goes!We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer. Want petrol
prices
to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.
Philip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE
SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day" campaign that was going
around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because
they
knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It
was
more of an inconvenience to us than a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the
OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is
CHEAP at 77p -80p, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that
BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers.
With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take
action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come
down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And
we can do
that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year,
DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are
one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined
to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies
will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally
millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!
Now, don't whimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll
explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this
note to a; lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x
10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)
... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of
people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three
million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million
people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed
it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send
this to 10 people. That's all. (and not buy at ESSO/BP). How long would all
that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one
day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within
the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please
pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES
TO
THE
69p a LITRE RANGE Action: It's easy to make this happen. J forward this
email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Tesco, Sainsburys, Jet etc.
i.e. boycott BP and Esso

84.9 at morrison which isnt really saving me pounds not points and at sainsburys it 83.9, where good fuel costs less.
tescos is 84.9 because every little helps.( they should have a tesco value pump for unleaded IMO! )
