Online suppliers of steel bends??

Post by steb9780 »

Does anyone know any suppliers of steel bends. It's for my FMIC.
I need a couple of 90 degree bends and a 45 degree. Plus I also need a length of it.

I have been told to go to a Powerflow dealer but the nearest one to me is an hours drive away.

:D

Go to exhausts then to universal parts - jetex, theres 110 parts there, this is where i got mine from.

You will just have to cut the end sleeves off.

Have you also made a plan of what bits you will need? If you are doing it similar to mine at al PM me and i will send you a list of all the parts you will need and what tools!

...I was considering this route myself, but what about the boost pipes coming off under high pressure?

Custom made ones tend to have, and I can never remember the name of these, like ridges around each end of the pipe. These and the jubilee clips make sure they dont blow off.

This is especially of concern to me, running 15 Psi ;)

When Drew has made my T-piece, he has put a bead of weld all around the end, then that acts as a stop. I suppose that's a good idea if you are worried about the pressure blowing them off.

You can also machine a set a fine grooves around the end of the pipes so that the hose can grip better when the clip is tightened. IIRC Jonny did this on the VT Turbo, good solution if you don't have access to a tig welder :)

Ah good idea, didnt realise Jonny had done this. What sort of equipment would you need to machine the grooves? I'm presuming some sort of workshop machinery...

Dremel with a couple of grinding disks will work just fine ... just won't look as good as one done on a laith (spelling?). At the end of the day when you have a hose over it no one can see it

If its steel, you will only need a MIG welder.

I may get one as it seems worth its weight in gold when i have to make mounts for the new exhuast and the like.....

They are reasonably cheap now too!

Should really pay for itself after a while...

Partco sell what?

Ah - laith is the term I was after yes. As it happens, I picked up a bargain Dremmel replica from B&Q with loads of accessories, hundreds of spares, and all for £20 :D

i had a big donkey boy lathe i stuck the pipe in. i only uses metal straight alloy hose with silicone elbows. (rubber elbows are stiffer than rubber straights   )

i used a angled cutting tool to such that the pipe ends were 'barbed' certainly gripped very well as they stayed on through boost and the crash, bear in mind i was only running 0.5bar though the pressure wasn't to much of an isse.

I used an angle grinder on the edge of my pipes to 'rough' the surface up a fair bit.

Mine hasnt come off once, i did double up on at a couple places in jubilee clips.

I am running at 1 bar and they havent come off.

I did make sure that my pipes were made extra long though so the pipe probably goes into the hoses a good 3 inches.
