216 Gti 0-60 times?
Slight argument/indecision on this topic!
I say 8.7seconds for 0-60 in a Twin cam Gti. Based on memory and a the D16 CRX is plus 8 seconds.
Can anyone confirm?

~How boring is this 0-60 thing that keeps popping up.
There VERY few ways of properly measuring.. and anyway my car does it in 15 secs for all i care. If i ever see any quicker cars on the race track though im sure the 'faster' car will be obvious.
Either way the std book times for both the Gti and the CRX are above sub 7 secs.
Std 16v rex is about 8 flat and gti around 8.7 from what i vaguey recall from seeing these boring statistics.

At the end of the day Jonny makes some very valid points that I personally agree with.
Pretty much all straight line acceleration tests have little worth in the real world or on a track to an extent, with 0-60 being right at the bottom of the scale, 0-100 or 1/4 mile are better, but again dont tell the whole story, while most of us use the 1/4 mile due to its ease of access and relatively cheap cost compared to a track day, I' much rather have a car that went round a track quicly first, up a drag strip quickly second. This may sound hypocritical as the majority of the cash spent on my car has gone on the engine, but I will be having bigger brakes, strut braces, etc in place as well as hopefully a set of road legal trackday tyres in order to get the most out of the upgraded power, the spec of the car was dictate more so by broken parts requiring replacement anyway, than a choice of direction to take with a healthy car to start from.

I don't care how boring this fact/statistic is to anyone.
I want to know definitively what the manufacturer's book figure for the 0 to 60 time is for the 3 door Rover 216GTi DOHC and a link to an authoritative website with this information would be a good way of showing that this is definitive information.
I gave this link on another thread which states that the 0 to 100kh/hr (62mph) figure for the Honda CRX with the same engine is 7.5 seconds: http://tl01guy.tripod.com/Ecodes.htm I am not saying that that is an authoritative website though. Any other sources would be great if you can find them.

Although the GTi Rover came out on top, the Golf is now one of the most respected hot hatches of its time. Along with the Pug 205 Gti.
Its a shame there aren't as many mint 216 Gti's as there are Golfs....

Yeah thats down to marketing though, and respect from many who have never got beyond the Rover badging. CRX's never get a mention in the hot hatches league when looking back at that era
. I think half the reason the 216's went so well is cos of the thin metal Rover/Honda use.
Golf gti is worth keeping mint, Rovers are viewed as simple daily hacks.
