has it got a distributor on the front RHS of the engine ?
it quite close to the changeover year and going by Rovers past experience of using whatever parts come to hand, it's probably best to look at it.

Looking for the dissy won't help.

In theory, if it has the 17" alloys and is one from before the revised range, it will be a Vitesse Sport, with 200bhp.

PM me the registration mark. I'll pop it into the EPC and see what it comes up as.

Ask to see the log-book. Mine actually says "Vitesse Sport". Guess that may not be universal though.

Mine's a 96P 200bhp model by the way but has a distributor...IIRC all post 96 2 litre's (turbo or NASP) lost their dizzy.

As johno says all Sports had 200bhp, 17" alloys and I think the first ones were on a M plate (the 180bhp model was still produced for a couple of years after the 200bhp Sport was launched).

Hope that helps?

Vin and EPC or ECU part number, someone browse the EPC for 200ps ECU's should give you ther right info if you don't have the vin.
That said the Vin is easier to get if you haven't bought it as its on the screen.

V5 may or may not say sport, wheels been nothing as wheels get bought and sold.

As Craig says give reg to someone with epc to whack in should bring up all details unless its on private plate failing that chassis number will do.

Easiest visual way to tell =>96 or 96=> is:
body mouldings painted to match car with chrome insquirts (96=>)
or
black mouldings with chrome inquirts(=>96)
Personally i thought 180ps version finished circa 'L' reg but not 100%??

Rover storing stuff in fields means you can't always go by the Reg number.
Sports came in around 94 ish IIRC, then you've got Sport with the Lux pack.

Argh me hearty i know. Twas a ballpark figure/guestimate ish

Around the Herts area there was a fleet of black fastback 800's on K reg's but where early shape(plastic grille =>91) caused mucho confusion for a while when sortin bits for em till the penny finally dropped.

There was also one guy can't think of his name now(though Tebbit rings a bell?) that had a prototype maestro and one of the last ones built as well, luckily the guy who used to run the parts counter was sh!t hot.
