another ti on the road

Post by johno »

:w00t: ...after 13 months, around the back of the house, the ti is finally on the road after passing it's MOT...it's had a fair bit done to it from a full respray (as i hate stonechips), recondtioned wheels, new tyres and a complete strip down of the top end of the engine (as i bought it with suspected h/g failure but turned out to be leaking valves)....anyway on the whole i'm very pleased as its a really comfy, quick car (actuator pressure at the mo-~8psi) and (i think) good looking car (black, vit 17's, lowered, etc)....especially as i've been nipping around in a 1.2 punto lately..anyway a few things i noticed....firstly and most worrying, is it normal to get 75 miles from £20 of fuel? I know what people will think but half my miles today have been on the motorway in 4th and 5th gear...i thought it might be the cts but when this is pulled the fans kick in straight away :? It also has a slight intermittent judder from the clutch when pulling away in 1st (maybe contamination from sitting) and a slight whine from the gearbox (i mean very slight) so maybe bearings needed somewhere down the line...anyway before i make it sound like a wreck which it definetely isn't i just wanted to express my happiness at getting such a good car as it is even better than what i might have thought..(apart from the fuel economy-lol)...anyway thats my tuppence worth :D

CTS might be switching the fans but could still be in error.

I had one a while ago that constantly under read, making the MEMS think the engine was always colder than it actually was but it would still kick the fans when the plug was pulled off.

They are notorious so for the sake of a few quid from Partco I'd change it on spec anyway.

Sounds about right for the fuel, your probably used to doing nearly 200 miles on £20 in the punto,i know my little 1.2 punto does nearly that lol

the temp shoud stay pretty constant once warm if the stat is working properly.

try another 'stat, 88degree is whats fitted as standard.
if you fit a cooler 'stat it may run 'open loop' & overfuel slightly.

As stated change stat and CTS, pennies few, and prolly solve the problem :)
