What is the idea of the shape of the MG's bumpers?

Image

Is it for cooling of the brakes?

Thought it might be that but as none of the others have similar bumpers i wasn't convinced.

Aye, turkington seems like a decent driver, im always routing for the MG's :)

Also, there was a black 4 cylinder MG finished 10th or something? They had improved the engine and the guy driving was happy with the performance, it's nice to see MG's arent being tottaly wipped off the face of the earth :)

There are 3 MG's running 2 - RAC one privateer

Main differences are the RAC's run a 2.0L Judd engine rather than the 2.5V6 the black one uses.

The bodystyling is ment for aerodynamics and brake cooling.

Team Dynamics have a DC5 replica which has the aero kit on but no flat bottom, the thing is uncontrollable at high speed as the kit actually works but as no flat bottom on teh car it sends it everywhere!

I thought the commentators mentioned that the black one had an improved 4 cylinder engine

That's why the MG is better at late braking and can defend corners very well. Altogether some brilliant racing. I am sure there are a couple more independant MG cars too.

They certainally did, I did find it a bit strange saying that the 4 cyl has more power though? What sort of spec is that 2.0l then (ie based on K series?)

The black one was the 4cylinder job of Jason Hughes IIRC...

Not sure on the engine specs of the 4 cylinder but apparently has better "thermal dynamics" to nab a buzzword off commentator Ben Edwards. He didn't elaborate further than that.

The RAC MGs are running pretty well to be honest, right up there in power/traction and pretty much the best on the brakes.

God bless the BTCC!

If there is one guy I cant stand its Matt Neal. Thought he was a nice chap when he won in the privateer Primera but appears to be an utter t1t - IMO.

The 2 litre 4 cylinder is a k series prepared by judd or something I think around 275bhp.

The reason they swapped if I remember was that the rev limit in touring cars is 8500rpm and the kv6 needed to be revved further to get the power out of it. (It also weighs more).

Great bit of racing especially turkington managed to get from 17th to 5th in the last race.

Don't think the 2.5 Litre KV6 would be allowed .... despite weight, those extra 500cc and two cylinders would be a distinct advantage. Some road going Rovers had a 2 litre V6 I seem to remember. I think the early factory KV6 MG ZS touring cars' power units were based on this ... but, could be wrong here.

The K2000 is a vastly race developed version of the 4 cylinder K series.

Considering the might of other participating outfits like GM, Honda and Seat-VW in present and past seasons, those MGs without factory support do quite well. Very well in fact.

I am quite sure the KV6 was de-stroked to 2000cc. Regulations don't allow bigger capacities.
The Mondeo used a 2000cc V6 with great results... was one of the best touring cars......

There is a 2L version of the KV6 that was used in the 75's and I persume the 45's. Was a nippy little engine in std tune, so I would guess it would have been excellent in race spec
