I seem to have acquired a Ti....

Well, I now own two turbo Rovers!
Picked up pres620ti's car from near Dorchester this evening. Not in too good shape engine-wise, has overheated badly and lost all coolant, but we'll see how she does when the head comes off to have a look.
It'll fire up when towed and kept revving, but won't even approach idling by itself. Sounds bloody awful when running, so not too hopeful of an easy fix, heh. Car needs a bit of cosmetic work, windscreen needs replacing, but inside is absolutely mint. May be beyond economical repair, but may not. We'll see!
Well, I did say I was looking for something to keep me occupied for the summer...
Many thanks to Squaddie for the use of the Land Rover and a rather fraught tow back to Blandford with no power steering and next to no brakes.

I towed mine with no clutch from sheffield to Manchester (Obviously avoiding the M1 / M62 as that would be naughty !) but at least mine would run! Don't envy being towed with no power assisted stearing / brakes!

Could just be a buggered head gasket leaking out all of the combustion gases from one or more cylinders.
Worst case will be a warped head I'd say though.

Just one thing tho Steve, isn't it a tad tiny for you?

Well, you know. I felt the need for a supermini.
Felt good to drive the Vit home though!

I shall be starting to take the head off tomorrow, so then we will know the outcome.
So far she needs
New Rad
Couple of Hoses
Front windscreen
some bodywork (bit of a spray job)
headset
Head skim
Once i get the head off and have a look, if there seems to be no real damage, she may well be repairable and a nice little project for steve and I but if its going to be uneconomical to repair (we are not going to get back what we spent to get her running) we may just have some nice donor bits for our vittys should we need them lol

.
Sounds stupid, but the thing that probably going to determine the cost is the windscreen
We both saw the car and were getting excited about getting her going untill we saw the screen, real shame TBH as apart from the rear quater needing a blowover she is in pretty good shape

If it's badly overheated it might have ring/bore damage? That said, a whole T16 turbo engine can be had for reasonable money.

£90 + vat inclusive of windscreen trim clips and fitting, if thats any help?
However if you get it driveable and it has mot and tax etc, bring it to me and it'll be half that

LOL cheers bud, i will keep that in mind.
TBH it all depends on what price we can get a decent rad for as well as the engine damage, if the block is goosed, it may as well be used as engine spares for steve and i, as to get it running, and to a saleable standard, we wouldnt get anything back/may even losse money on it

UPDATE
Right i now have the head off the Ti, it looks like Number 1 piston is flappin round like a goodjun, so IMO it looks like she may have to live on in other cars.
Have to wait see what steve says

Hmm. Well, looks like I may be reluctantly breaking a Ti in the near future then.
Was rather hoping it didn't need major engine surgery, but wasn't holding out too many hopes after taking a good look under the bonnet!

Don't worry, Sir Bobson, I'll make sure you're top of the vulture list.

The head looks in remarkable good shape though, needs a pressure test to make sure though

Does it still look as odd as it did last week?
Still say it looked a bit different to a normal T16 for some reason!

Did look a bit odd, but mates up to the block OK, and it is clean as a whistle

Thats how it was when we got it.
Guess why it lost all its coolant!
If you notice the blue pipe, that was cut too long and melted on the head, where it sprung another leak!

The little pipe there always snaps off, looks like a whole tube of mastic used there...
