Is yours 8v or 16v, but either way, go and buy some decent tools and DIY, it will be cheaper, and you get a really good feeling when she fires up and runs :)

trust me it isnt that difficult, just take your time, and have a good manual to work from.

halfords pro socket set £100

couple of other bits and bobs, and a few consumables, and a few service items, maybe another 70quid on top, then you can do it yourself.

The K needs a little more care than normal, but its not outside anyones realm to do it. Someone nearby can prolly give you a hand?

i'll second that halfords socket set, best christmas prezzie ever :D

but yeah like the other said do it yourself you will feel so much better knowing you done it yourself, if you get stuck you only got to have a look or just ask on here, theres always some 1 about to give you a hand,

trouble is,if you have never had to set the timing up, or torque the head down etc, although its easy,it can cost more to put a chupa chup up right.
im not knocking you couldnt do it yourself, its the experience that gets the job done properly :)

But on the flip side it is only by doing it that you get the experience :)

There must be a first time for everything :)

^^ i agree.it will help with the experience, but i know that its a pretty hard task to get right for a learner diy mechanic.
with people like ourselves,im sure we can point him in the right direction tho.

I did my very fist HG, 3 months ago on a Nasp M series 820.

I took my time, asked lots of questions on here, and apart from me c0cking the timing up slightly, she fired first time, it was a great feeling, and i certainly have the confidence to do it again on any engine as long as i had such excellent technical support as i had from this site!

^^i stand corrected then!
fair play as those M/T series are an ar$e to get right.
i suppose if in doubt, dont try and start it, and remember, if you turn the engine over while the head is off, if the valves are open when the head is put back on,and the pistons are up, you will bend the valves as you torque the head down!!

when i done my T16 i managed to put it back together and get it started with 1 of the cams a tooth out, 3 times i put it back in the same place trying to get it right and everytime it started, did eventualy get it right, and it such a great feeling when it does go right, the T16 was my second twin cam ive done, the first was a lancer gti, and that was a complete biatch, done loads of 8 valve heads, much easier

I did my first K in the rain and snow :)
Some spanners, torque wrenches and some pashance is what is needed.

It took me 3(or 4) evnings as I coudnt get the lower pully bolt off and had to not change the cam belt. And I stuffed the timing (mark your pullys!)
I recon next time I could do it in a after noon.

Its good fun, intresting and you get a massive sense of acheivement when you sort it yourself for a fraction of the price :D

Then the next time something goes wrong you already have loads of tools and then the costs really start to plummit :)

N, but if you look at the engine funny with the bolts out then the whole car can explode in a ball of flames
