I was against them changing anything on this, but I think they done a good job,

like the V8 style front bumper which should have been standard on all IMO.

Roewe is the SIAC version isn't it and MG the Nanjing one?

How many other car designs have been produced simulataneously by competing manufacturers like this??

Think from glancing through past posts on mg-rover.org that the Roewe's are all a bit longer than the original 75 and the MG ZT will be much as per the Longbridge version.

Autocar or Auto Express carried an interview a few weeks ago where a Nanjing person was saying that ,contrary to rumours, they'd use high tensile steel in the ZT's shell so crash-worthiness will be on a par with the original Rover.

There were some shots on mg-rover.org of a pair of (possibly) Chinese assembled Rover 25's last week too...sad but nice to see all at the same time IMO. :|

Oh - don't laugh but Roewe is pronounced "Row-Wah". Guess they really thought they'd own the Rover badge by now!!!

What's changed on this car? It still looks like a Rover 75 to me. This was one of the reasons Rover went under... no money to design a new car, therefore no one bought one.

Can't see this 'Roewe' lasting long.

The only things i can see are slightly differant front bumper, updated dash, differant rear lights and bootlid. Still a 75 at heart

I agree it looks good.

But look aren't enough. The key things will be :

1) Build quality/reliability. Chinese goods do not have the best reputation in this regard. Unfortunatly the parts used will probably be cheap. But on the plus side, however, parts will be cheap! ;)

2) Handling/performance/NCAP rating. How good are the engineers in sorting a chassis/suspension? Or do they intend to just stick with the standard Rover setup?

3) Dealer network. Will there be such a thing in the UK for these? or will they be sold in some other way?

4) Price. I expect it will be competitively priced against rivals, but until the points above are dealt with, this won't be enough to generate sales. It will need to seriously undercut them until quality is established.

I do like the front although it's obviously a copy of the Audi A8, as seen in 'Transporter 2'.

I like the look of that.

Hope it's well screwed together

I'm guessing that there will be a right hand drive version for import into the UK.

Might well be my next chariot :)

Is it me or have they re-introduced the chrome ? chrome everywhere?

05 MY 75 was de-chromed a bit and also the back end is very Chris Bangle 7 series..............

If they sell for about £13K then your on to a winner

There was an argument between Rover and Audi when the 75 V8 was launched. Audi said that Rover had nicked their design and Rover said "prove it, we had a grille like that years ago"
I don't think much was done legally so the design remained.

Big whoop. It's just a 75 with new lights and bumpers - about as original as a 200 that's been had lexus lights and a bodykit.

Lots of people refused to buy Rovers in this country "cos their shite". If these things do sell here then that will be a big insult IMO.

Me likes that, however I'd be sorely tempted to colour code the bit of light that curves round to bootlid make it look like the 75 :)

Well Nac MG as is now named has already supposedly got 90 dealers lined up for when they start aselling new MG's in the uk again next year. They're still saying there will 100% be cars built at longbridge. Aparantly SMC dealerships have signed a contract with MG agreeing to be dealerships for them. As for Roewoe though theres no uk dealerships been confirmed as far as im aware.

The thing is their main markets will be domestically and in the developing east. They will no doubt export a few to the west, at a competitive price, to help pave the way for future more developed models.

I posted a while back about the name 750 and the possibility of BMW having something to say about it.

Pretty sure someone in China is making a blatant rip off of the old model Honda CRV: decidedly without Honda's permission.

If that's the case, I suspect another Chinese maker will be filling any letters from BMW's Trademarks lawyers in the cylindrical floor-mounted filling system...
