Probably about 34-35 I'd imagine. Driving our 214 all around the motorways, and sometimes enthusiastically returns 38-40.

Never had car you speak of but had a 1990 414si (1.4K, 16valve, singlepoint injection) for about 20 months few years ago. Was my first car, for just over a total of 20,000 miles she averaged 27.75mpg. 90% of that was city driving, short spins less than 2 miles. Just looking at figures in front of me lowest is 17mpg and highest is 37mpg (must have gone on a long spin), she rarely dipped below 25mpg.
Then had a 1995 214SEi with the multipoint K 16V 1.4, for the first 2 and a half years I had this I was doing 90% city driving again, that one rarely dipped below the 28mpg and averaged close to 30mpg with the 90% short spins.
Just for info the SEi averaged 39mpg when I was doing 320 miles motorway/dual carraigeway and then 80 miles of short trips to a tank.
I imagine the SEi info is more similar to what you can expect, hope that helps. (keep an eye on the water levels)

Do you have a lead foot mate, I got at least 90 to a tenner in my 214Si 16V mostly short trips, ok the petrol might have been a couple of pence cheaper 18 months ago but not that much. I get around 65 to a tenner now in my turbo coop... and thats with the occasional lead footage

I got on a trip to anglesey 250miles to 26quid which is about 50mpg that was mostly motorway miles and if not motorway it was national speed limit on A-roads. i get around 60miles to 10quid. although i filled my tank to the top early and set my tripometer so will let you know the out come.

When is the last time the car was given a proper service? old plugs and filters can drastically affect the MPG figures.

So what do you get? 50mpg or 60 miles to £10?Hughes_16 wrote:Sounds w**k and is w**ksingh_87 wrote:ok kooool... because i get 60 miles of a tenner in my rover 214i 8v.. which i think is w**k.. what do you lot recon??

If someone suspects they have a problem with fuel consumption, the first thing they should do (IMO) is to actually work out their fuel consumption properly. Brim the tank, reset trip meter, use most of it, brim again and work out litres used over miles driven. (Approx 4.55 litres to a gallon).
The "about 200 miles to half a tank" or "xx miles to ha'penny" really isn't accurate.

Mine is a smidgen more than that, and I do 2800 miles a month.calibrax wrote:My T16 turbo gives me around 60 miles for £10, with normal motorway commuting... I live 46 miles away from my office, which is why my fuel billl is around £200 a month, even though I work from home 2 days a week

You mean you do 2800 miles on about 5 tanks of fuel in a turbo car... which means 500+ miles per tank?! thats 50mpg, not possible unless it's a turboDIESEL lol...C2K wrote:Mine is a smidgen more than that, and I do 2800 miles a month.calibrax wrote:My T16 turbo gives me around 60 miles for £10, with normal motorway commuting... DERV for the win. As Ross suggests that's the Pug. Rover does just under 300 to about 40 quids worth of fuel.
I put 62ish litres (a tank) in the Pug a week, and it doesn't last long.
If you do your sums, you'll find that there's a good chance the right DERV will work out practically free to you from savings over commuting with the Turbo. Mine certainly did.

to even more compound how poor that 214's mpg is.
I just worked out Jacqs mpg for a full tank in the T4, normal driving, not pottering excessively, and with a couple of blats, including me taking it out for a proper play the other night. It's 1280kg so heavier than the 214, running 750cc injectors, GT3076 turbo etc etc, and it returned.....27.3mpg, so 1 or 2 more than the 214 in question, bearing in mind that even with the weight of it etc and in full trim it feels faster than my coupe, it will probably be over 3 times the 214's power, and yet getting better economy, so something is very much wrong.

been driving around in a 218is for a while and thats getting 80 to 10quid so you must have a big problem dont forget the later cars such as the zr,s should have a better fuel economy due to emmissions regulations
first bet is get it on a diagnostic machine to see if the lambdas are reading right
