Common misconception...

Post by adamc260 »

I've always wondered, why do people always rib rovers saying ahh they're slow, bad styling, not reliable, it'll break down... my mate just bought a 214i (96P), 107k on the clock, I got a fiesta with 94k (98S Zetec-S) on the clock and to be honest his car is running better than mine, has more in it and his insurance is cheaper... I think I know what my next car will be!

lol, welcome to RT.

Without knowing the ills of the ford, just wait till his HG fails, then he'll cry. (and he'll ask you to go tow him :D )

that said, the interior of any rover pretty much beats most other cheap old cars to a bloody pulp...

Yeah the HG seems a common problem on rovers but saying that mind, my drivers door leaks like nothing you've ever seen... rather that happen than see a fish tank in the back every day!

Thank you for the welcome btw! :P

Adam, because just like with Maestros, they've never actually owned one, just heard stories from their mate who knows a bloke whose sisters boyfriend had one a few years ago!

Lol aye... saying that mind I learnt in a rover streetwise (bout a year ago) and my instructor would always take the tripe n onions out of rover... saying that, he never really had any issues with it, other than common things like the clutch going but I mean it was a learner car! Theres a rover on here somewhere thats done like 275k +, try saying thats not reliable! I'm definately looking into a 214 or 25 for my next car, my fiesta is ok for a 1st car but.. it's kinda small! (I'm 6'4 almost :P)

90% of people who badmouth rovers have nevere owned one or had any proper experience of one.

I prefer it that way. It means they're affordable, relatively cheap to insure (imagine if chavs wanted a 620ti rather than a calibra or impreza...) and don't attact the attention of thieves like more desirably cars do. It also means you can really surprise some other drivers out on the road/track.

So let's all keep it a secret ;)

I almost died when my mate said how much his insurance was on his 214... £1400 with 1 day of passing his test... my insurance is £1325 on a 1.25 Fiesta with pass plus and 9 months driving experience... justified? I think not...

I had a Maestro once! It was noisy and draughty! Mind could have been something to do with the back end being stuffed in and the hatch having a 3" gap on one side, the Montego was lots better tho! Well it was a MG :D

One reason with Britain doesn't have any industry now, it all gets knocked too much by the press so people pick up on it, Rovers must be crap cos paper says so, etc etc then they're up in arms when everywhere closes down and moves abroad! :x

Are you referring to my car then ?
She just ticked over the 279,000 mark today and she's currently doing around 100 miles per day. With that in mind, she should make the 300k mark before Christmas. She only needed minor work for her MOT last month, Handbrake, windscreen chip and ABS light was on due to duff sensor

I find it amusing when people bad mouth my car when i tell them i have a 400. Im never very specific about the exact model, they tend to shut up when i tell them it has 200bhp and cost me £900, especially when they see it. Even better it costs me £300 to insure FC, and has had no days off road for repairs since i got it at least none that werent caused by me fiddling with it.
I had a Maestro once, a 1.6HLS auto, i really liked it. So much nicer inside and much better to drive than an Escort or Astra. It never went wrong... until the engine went after i hit a rock in terrible weather one night and it lost its oil. I replaced the engine then some bi-atch crashed into it...

Maestros rule 8) Quiet, comfy, handle well pretty well put together, and can be made quicker than most things on the road for not much money if you buy the right one.

It probably won't even have the gearing for the Ti's nigh-on 150mph top speed...

If it's a new shape fiesta then they're barely smaller/lighter than a focus
