As anticipated, just had news my ZS is B.E.R ! Beyond economical repair........ :(

Driving up to London an Mother's day to see her Mum on Sunday, cars in front of my wife do emergency stops. She also stops and a little while later the car behind my wife did not stop. This is the result...:(

Image

Image

The only positive aspect of this whole affair is that the driver held his hands up and admitted full responsibility. Both Insurance companies have been helpful and my wife is currently driving around in a new Zafira. She really hoped her car would be repairable but, I told her that is unlikely. So, with less than 30,000 miles bought new in May 2003 with a load of extras, the car is no more.

Currently, in excess of three dozen phone calls and numerous forms later ( what a mullarkey! ~ particularly as my wife is entirely blameless and has over 30 years NCB! ) I'm now wondering if I can find another ZS nice as that ~ very doubtful. I now await to hear from the Insurance Companies what they are prepared to offer.

That's terrible, she looked like a new ZS, obviously your wife is a careful driver. Hopefully you will get a fair value for her off the insurance people.

You'd think that rear end could be pulled out and the car fixed up. Ah well, does seem a shame but I guess the 2nd hand value of MG's means this is the way it will be for us.

lol, I was just thinking about how nice those wheels look and how I need a set of 17's

Daz that looks worse than my ZR was and they very nearly wrote that off. By the time it was repaired the bill stood at 5k all in so i can understand why that is clearly a write off.

Real shame though as it looks very tidy.

I thought you were a man who could fix anything John? :P

Is it really beyond DIY repair? The doorshuts look ok and the rear wheels don't seem to have moved.

And another one bites the dust :(

Pity as it looks like it could be an easy repair if you had the skills/equipment. Is it not possible to buy it back off the insurance company? My policy gives me salvage rights after any accident.

Although I'm not entirely happy with the offer received earlier today which I'm currently considering, I have the option of keeping the ZS for 1000 notes which is attractive. There's plenty of useful bits on the car including the whole power plant and transmission ~ well maintained and with a genuine less than 30,000 miles.

I would not be happy with the car even if it would be repaired to a tidy standard. It will never be the same car again.

My wife arranged to have three days leave from work last week to do some house decorating ~ I'm still resting recovering from heart bypass surgery ~ but that plan went to waste because of her back problems.

I'm not too worried about the car now ~ I'll find her another nice example ~ meantime she'll have to make do with the new courtesy Zafira.

All in all 2007 is shaping up to be one of my least favourite years..... anus horrible or summut...;)

Hardly a week passes without some interest in the car. I turned down 1000 quid offer last year. However, I'm keeping this one until they screw the lid down ..;)

All my cars earn their keep ~ including the silver MG Montego Turbo. .... and I do mean earn:

Image

One cheeky Buggur placed a flyer on the car offering to take it away free of charge. The MGF 5-spoke VVC alloys and good tyres alone are worth more than the scrap value... Any old car is worth a nice few quid scrap value now.

I currently have THREE cars MoT'd and taxed ( 2 x 620ti and MG ZS ) and rotate them every six months or so. This helps keep the mileages down too. That silver turbo has done less than 75,000.

Less than five miles away, someone has a black MG Montego Turbo on his front garden. It has not moved for years. My son spotted this some years ago as his job takes him into many of the quiet backwaters of Gloucestershire. He's spotted many such motors ~ there's quite a few tasty ones about still.

Yes it was ~ thanks to the majority of my fellow Brits who prefer to support other companies, buying a new MG is an option no longer available to me.

Not too much... thanks for the thought Colin.

When I'm faced with an excess of stress I tend to switch off and let it all flow away with the passing of time. What else can you do ... fait accompli and all that.

So, in addition to the heart bypass operation and ever so slow recovery, written off MG ZS.... guess what?

Some plonker used bolt cutters to access my property and drove my twin axle trailer away.

I f*****g hate pikeys!

My Dad's trailer went walkies a little while ago too, really annoying as it left us with nothing to tow the race car on. Aparrently they all end up in Ireland - hey Irish, keep an eye out eh? :o)

Certainly doesn't seem to be a very good year so far... who said 7 was a lucky number?

All the best, hope it's not getting you down too much.

Keep it back for 1k and repair it yourself to sell on , doesnt look like chassis damage based on the rear quarters.

New bumper and bootlid will do it ?

Shutline on the rear driver side door looks a bit off to me. You'd have to have a good look over it John, it might be cheap or it might be nasty.

Boot floor marked?

I have done.

The nearside rear door is noticeably worse. I shall not repair the car but will probably accept it for the 1000 notes and break for spares. Having had it from new means I know how good all those bits are including the brakes, engine, gearbox and other major parts. it was a superb car to drive.

I'd have got a new MG ZS sooner than 2003 but, waited and waited for the turbo version to appear ... in vain. They put it in the larger R75 and MG ZT ~ a missed opportunity ~ the 1.8 K16 Turbo would have suited the smaller cars much better.

Yes, some MG Montegos had digital 'talking' instruments. I had an early MG EFi with it. That nice lady would occasionally say things like...."Warning/Caution, low coolant level". "Warning ~ rear passenger door not closed" with warning diagrams on the illuminated panel showing which door etc. ... useful when you have young children which I did at the time. ...and simply by pressing a button, you could change the Digital speedo/odometer readings from Miles to Kilometres/per hour and vice versa. All that well over 20 years ago. Not simply a gimmick some would have you believe but a useful feature.

The car which rear ended the ZS was a VW Passat Sport Auto....

Dman Shame bud my Coupe got front ended about a month ago now and I'm in the process of repairing it. Can be done quite cheeply if you look around for parts and your willing to live with the knowledge that it has been damaged. Mine should be back on the road next weekend.
