hi

was messing with my car the other day,

i opened the bonnet and helt it in the air with my hand and revved the engine,

one of the hoses has come off the airbox so i went to touch it just as the engine was reving down and i accidently caught the dizzy cap with the leads coming out of it and even tho its all covered in plastic and rubber i had the biggest shock in my life!

it was so stong i couldnt take my hand away!
i was stuck there for at least 1 or 2 seconds which although doesnt sound like much, it felt like 10 minutes!

any one else done this?

my arm was tingling for about 10 mins afteR!

That will be 120,000 volts , yes you heard me right , low current mind.

I once tried to replace a headlight bulb on a 220 with the engine running , coil is right behind it , ouch !

If you had a heart condition that you didnt know about, you would now!

Yeah ive done that, pulled the kinglead out of a dissy cap to stop a running engine(battery was in boot and car was locked...long story) needless to say i screamed a few expletives whilst running as fast as i could(as though the zappy dizzy cap was gonna chase me lol  ).

 classic!

Tis indeed a sign that the insulation on the leads is breaking down, you were an easier earth than going through the spark plugs!! Change them now to prevent it getting you again and save an embarrasing breakdown during rush hour - experienced that before!

The funny thing is that since you were holding the bonnet you make an even better earth - right across your chest/heart! :D

You shouldn't get a shock off of ignition leads in good condition, but I don't tempt fate and stay the fek away from them when the engine is running, or at least use a dry cloth or pliers.

did you change the dizzy cap and rotor arm at the same time?

I got a tingle from my dizzy cap while trying to pull the pipe from the re-circ while the engine was running.

Needless to say I got a few curtains twitching when the bugger got me

The insulation on the king lead was in pretty bad shape, think it'd been on the car its entire life, lol.

Anyway, got my nice new Magnecors on now and have just been swapping the dizzy cap and rotor arm so no chance of it happening again (not that I want to test it)
