Greatest Game?

Post by keironewoodgate »

Hey all,

Continuing the theme of video games i thought i'd start a topic on what people think the greatest game of all time is.

My fav would have to be Final Fantasy 7, without any doubt THE greatest game of all time. No other game has had me so hooked and involved in the story as any other game ever. At the time the graphics and sound quailty were both amazing infact some of greatest on the psone, and the depth!!! The first time i completed it my game clock said 40hrs!!!

Without a doubt the greatest story ever told.

All time for me has to be Tomb Raider. The first time I played that I was blown away, totally original, addictive and playable.

And it's got Lara in it!

I know what you mean. I remember when i first had the playable demo to it, i'd spend hours just exploring around the environment just because you could. It was one of the first games to offer that kind of expirience and it looked fantastic. :D

Halo without a doubt.

Challenging on single player (well at first anyway) and superb when you've got 3 or 4 xbox's linked up with about 10 mates round.

That's what I'm on about, most games before that you had to follow an exact path to get where you were going but TR was like a whole new world to explore. Obviously there are better made games now but 8 years ago it was breathtaking. I remember the start of level three I think where you walk out at the top of that huge tower and the music starts going. The best level was sanctuary of the sphinx. After I completed it I just kept playing that one level, the views were awesome.

That why i loved FF7 because of its huge depth. The world is made of loads of different towns and you spend the first 8 hours or so in one of them. When you first leave it and get one the world map for the first time thats when it hits you how BIG the game is. I still play it now and discover little parts of the plot that i missed before.

You also find yourself getting attached to characters, its definatly an expirience i'll never forget. Squaresoft keep trying but they've yet to make another FF game to match

So many choices,

Monkey Island would have to be mine, such a classic

With you on Goldeneye Si, know many people that brought a N64 just for that game

Sega Rally 2 ( arcade ) ... fantastic! :D

and of course... Super mario world - the delight at seeing all 95 levels completed for the first time - aahhhhh :D

Infact. theres too many too list :D

I couldn't choose!!!

Alex Kid in Miracle World - Master System (never completed :( )
Sonic - Megadrive
Zelda - SNES
Duck Hunt - NES
Sega Rally - Sega Saturn
Panza Dragon - Sega Saturn
Shenmeu - Sega Dreamcast
Gran Turismo - PSX (Although I don't have Sony trash)
Goldeneye - N64 (for the multiplayers aspect, oh the amount of time I have spent with mates on that!)
Halo - XBOX
Command and Conquer - PC - Not sure if I prefer the original, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert or Red Alert 2! Or Generals.
Half-Life COUNTER STRIKE!!! Ace :)

Also the original Resident Evil - blew me away! Oh and Craaaaaazy Taxi :D

That’s a very hard choice!

At the moment I would say Call of Duty on the PC, great single player experience and the multiplayer part isn’t bad also.

But for the real mulitplayer experience it must be Battlefield 1942!

Mmm, but the games I really spend the most time playing ever? Athleticland on the MSX (1989?) and DOOM II (1994?) on the PC

That's a very difficult choice..

I'd have to say Unreal Tournament for the PC. It's now quite old but still looks good.
Halo is amazing multplayer, especially if you have more than 1 xbox...

The most addictive game ever though has to be Transport Tycoon. I sometimes start playing that again, and I just cant stop..

the best game of all time..........

ELITE on the BBC

current fave is Star Wars : An Empire Divided. Online only, currently 3 months of play and still ony mastered 2 out of 35 professions. Costs £10 a month though, so it develops as you go along.

:D There's nothing more satisfying than lining up a head shot with a sniper, pulling the trigger, and hearing "YOU B*****D!!!" come shouting in from the other room

That and warthogs... great fun

I agree with Tomcat, Command & Conquer in my opinion is by far the best game ever! I had it on the PSone. Going further back i would say Goldeneye, It was brilliant multiplayer!

Favourite game of yester year was Elite on the Sinclair Spectrum 48k - I spent days playing that when I was younger!! Totally addictive and at the time was a huge and endless game.

Console based, Resident Evil on PSX or Gran Turismo 2 on the PSX - I would agree that the original Tomb Raider was a revolution and was addictive.

PC wise, I admit Halo is excellent however, Half Life has my vote for my fave game of all time on the PC and with the excellent Day of Defeat and Counter Strike HL Mods to satisfy my online craving could I ask anything more?

Thats it!

Got to be
Half life for single player, (multi player was still better than anything else to)
Counterstrike for multiplayer.
Ive yet to play anything that matches the impact either of these had.
