Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repair
Hi folks, it's a sad day but i have decided to sell my ti, due to not having the time to fix it. Anyway here is an ad i wrote for it (hope it reads ok), anyway feel free to email any questions, opinions, etc. It's on gumtree so you can see pictures:

cheers, john. :
Here for sale (spares or repair) is my 1997 Rover 620 ti in the most desirable colour of black with black half leather interior. I have owned this car for approximately seven years and will be very sad to see it go. These cars are getting very rare now but are often described as a wolf in sheeps clothing with near 200 bhp available. The car has under 112k, is taxed until the end of this month and MOT runs out this month. The car has just come off a private plate.
I will now list the main points with the car, both negative and positive:
Negative:
The car has a problem with the clutch arm. The arm itself has bent due to the weld on the top of the arm failing. I managed to get the arm itself welded on the car but this didn't last very long, so a replacement part would be needed. The part itself is not expensive but to replace the arm involves gearbox removal which i don't have time to do at the moment. The clutch itself however was done not that long ago, it was working perfectly before the arm failed and if the car is started in gear it moves ok, so i believe a new arm would solve the problem.
The car had a scrape on the n/s/r bumper area, this has been touched up but is not as original but has not bothered me at all. The o/s/f wing has a slight dink and scuff mark. I rubbed the scuff and it appears to come off with my nail so i think a t-cutting would make it look a lot better fairly easily. The car has also had a full respray a few years ago, not due to anything sinister but due to me wanting to make the car look 100%. I will try to find pictures i have of the car before-hand, as it looked tidy but little stonechips, etc on a black car really annoy me. The job i think looks fine but is DIY so just wanted to mention it anyway, as it is not a factory finish (although i seen a very poor paint job on a new black BMW the other day but that is another story). There is a crack on the windscreen on the passenger side but has not caused any mot problems. There is a slight blow from the front of the exhaust (flexi section i believe). Radio reception is poor but i normally just use the cd player. A/C needs a re-gas and i only have one key for the car (again never bothered me at all). There is also of course marks consistent with age. SRS airbag light is on and alloy wheels have some kerbing marks.
Most of these points are just minor niggles but i would rather mention them anyway.
Positive:
The car has been regularly serviced and has had no expense spared with any parts it has required. I have always used fully synthetic oil changed every 4,000 miles and has been allowed to warm up and cool down rigorously with every use.
Never raced, used on a track or any such thing. I am in my 30's so is not a first car or suchlike and spends most of it's time going to the shops and travelling to work. It is a later model with very good condition 1/2 leather, electric windows, electric sunroof, cd player, etc.
Fitted with the following aftermarket items (totally standard apart from lowering/alloys when i bought it);
Low mileage T28 nissan pulsar turbocharger, cookie racing steel caged bearing gearbox, stainless exhaust system from cat back and decat, ceramic boost controller set at a safe/reliable 12psi, cone air filter, lowered i believe (not sure by how much), dump valve, vitesse sport 17 inch alloy wheels with very good tyres. I must add that i got a lot of these items due to a friend breaking a 220 turbo coupe and being given first refusal on what i wanted. So it wasn't a case of wanting more speed but the right offer at the right time.
Just had a new radiator and rear brake pads fitted a few months ago. Also over the past few years i have replaced the clutch (unfortunate i never changed the arm as well), alternator and starter motor. When i got the car i also wax oiled the underside, as it was a solid car underneath and wanted to keep it good as i had a fiat panda and know what a nightmare rust is!
Anyway to summarise. This is not a new car and is listed as spares or repair due to the fact that it won't drive with the clutch arm fault and it is an older car so is not perfect, but good in my opinion. Fitting a new clutch arm would make this a nice comfy and fast car for not a lot of outlay. If it wasn't for the fact i have purchased my first flat which is taking up all my time, i would have fixed the problem myself and still be driving it now. Anyway my loss is your gain.
The car is sold as spares or repair, with no warranties implied or given. I have tried to be as honest i can and have listed all that i know about the car in my opinion. However there may be things i have overlooked or judge differently but feel free to ask any questions and i will help as i can. Cash on collection, viewings welcome.
Thanks, John

Re: Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repai
This is a bargain imo, especially seeing as you get a few extras with the car! I threw a link up on here when you had it on ebay. Wish you all the best selling it whole as its worth it.

Cool..thanks david never knew there was a thread about my car already
Don't seem to have too much luck with ebay...sold for £400 but people don't seem to be able to read the listing so trying other avenues. Priced it at what i think is very fair considering the parts that are on it and with a bit of tlc it would be a nice ti again...just gutted i don't have any spare time at the moment to fix it. If anyone wants to make me a serious offer then feel free...

Re: Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repai
I was bidding on this and there was foul play as it was bidded up to my highest offer then the bid was retracted.
Re: Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repai
Thanks geo coupe for the positive comments..glad someone appreciates the car too
not quite sure M4cwo what you mean as i wasn't aware of any bids being retracted but maybe i'm missing something
Anyway i need to decide whether the car is going to go to a new home or if its going to go on the backburner until i can fix it...so £390 gets it...can't let it go for any less than that i'm afraid...cheers again, john
Re: Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repai
I am seriously tempted with this. I was thinking about it yesterday on the motorway actually.
My main problem is the distance, 260+ miles each way means the fuel bill will be huge. Let me look into how much the train is and I'll get back to you.
Do you have any more detailed pictures, engine, underneath, bodywork etc? Any problems that would concern the MOT, it is very short. Do you have the cat still? You say the car starts and drives in gear, but can you change gear without the clutch by rev matching, or would I need to fix it before I drove it home?

Re: Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repai
Surely with some extra care it should be possible to effectively weld that Clutch Release Shaft Crank still on the bellhousing. Do it from above having removed as much stuff above the Crank as possible. Lots of water running on the bellhousing to reduce heat transfer from the welding process.
regarding the bid retraction :~
Retracted: £250.00
Explanation:Entered wrong amount Bid:06-Oct-12 21:11:32 BST
Retracted: 06-Oct-12 21:16:04 BST
As it was only for £250 and retracted on 6th Oct with four days left to run I do not think there was anything to worry about there. Had it been for more than £250 and retracted nearer end of auction that would start alarm bells ringing for me.
I always watch 620ti on ebay and elsewhere but would never bid where the bidders' IDs are not shown. That is a distinct disadvantage as if you suspect 'iffy' bidding-retraction, you cannot check if that retracted bid is near the seller's location ~ that was a bit of a give away a few years back prior to ebay introducing hidden bidders' details so you could not do simple checks like that in the past.
For that reason I never bid on auctions which do not show bidders' IDs.

Was interested in this car until i read it cannot be driven. A shame really but ill have to let this one go.
On a side note, are you not better breaking it for spares ? Will rake in alot more than the asking price anyway.

He's right about that though. In some Mainland Europe countries, that car would be 3000-4000 Euros. Only in throwaway UK are so many fine old cars seen as almost worthless.mike88 wrote:Shut up Alan..

Re: Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repai
Mike, you need to get with reality - the prices of Rovers are so low these days that it makes more economic sense to break them for spares. The op could probably make at least a grand on top of his asking price if he stripped the car and with the MOT and tax expiring its unlikely that their will be any takers soon. Likewise, youd make more than the £750 asking price for your BRM if you broke it for spares.mike88 wrote:Shut up Alan..

Re: Black 620ti, £450 needs clutch arm fixed so spares/repai
Yes we get what your saying but the point I think is trying to make is that rovers are becoming rare as rocking horse now so if we can help it its worth fixing or salvaging to fix rather than breakingAlan25 wrote:Mike, you need to get with reality - the prices of Rovers are so low these days that it makes more economic sense to break them for spares. Not everyone buys them cheap just to break for parts like you though.
