Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
Ok, it's now ready for advertising.
The Ultimate engine for any Rover. Originally designed by Cosworth and Tony Pond Racing to dominate Touring Cars in the 800, the engine comprises a Billet Short Stroke Crank and lightweight short rods, giving a very appealing Rod-Ratio - meaning the potential for 9000+rpm. Although this level of RPM is not necessary with a Turbo vehicle. Added to these components are a set of Coated Arias Ultimate spec pistons, mods to the block to make this work, oil jets for under-piston cooling, a brand new oil pump, lightweight drive pulley and an Ultra-Light Farndon Flywheel for a Twin plate clutch. Extreme strength, light weight at a high level of design mean this will make impressive numbers.
To help the bottom end realise its potential, a big valve head has been prepared to "Ultimate" spec with 34/31mm valves. Bigger valves again could have been chosen, but at the expense of various qualities. High lift cams are added to the mix to get the best from this setup.
Almost priceless due to the heritage of the components, and no expense spared subsequently to make this an extremely desirable engine.
BLOCK: Decked and bored, modified for oil squirters.
CRANK: Modified to suit T16 mains, balanced, spacers made to suit so that pulleys and so on will fit.
RODS: Cosworth Designed Fully Forged Rods with ARP 2000s to suit.
PISTONS: Arias Ultimate spec with coated skirts and crowns
SHELLS: AP Turbo spec
HEAD: Ultimate flow / port job, 34/31mm valves and bronze guides, 264deg cams with 10.2mm lift, Solid lifters, Verniers
ANCILLARIES: New Oil Pump, Lightweight pulley, Ultralight Farndon Flywheel for 7.25" Clutch (AP Spacing)
The engine comes complete with a rear mounted Alternator and bracket setup to free up space around the front of the engine to run big turbo/manifold setups, and will also come complete with oil sandwich plate, remote filter housing, oil thermostat and oil cooler with all hosing and connectors (a pretty penny alone).
The engine does not come with gearbox, clutch or any manifolds, but is a complete sealed engine ready to have manifolds, box etc bolted on and dropped in ready to run.
This entire build was very expensive, and as such I can not let it go for peanuts.
Will listen to offers in the region of £3500.
Quite capabale of running in excess of 550bhp.

engine is out and ready to go now.
for ONE week only, I will accept £2500 for it as I have my eye on something. If it doesn't sell this week, then it'll go back up on ebay etc at full price.

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
Reading the spec list i was expecting a price around £5000.
This has got to be the bargain of the centuary, my engine bits alone cost about £2500 and they weren't any where near that spec, just whish i had the spare cash cause even at £3500 its well cheap.
(thinks how much he would get for his mum)!
Out of interest has the engine been run in at all?
Good luck with the sale.

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
special offer has now lapsed, as thing i was considering is now no longer available.
Priced back to £3500 on forums, and £4000 on ebay when i list it again.
May have to even consider keeping it at this rate for a piece of artwork, lol
cheers

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
sorry, no build thread on it.
Grant built it up for me using parts from MG Sport & Racing, as well as GBE supplied items, and specialist engineers for block, head work etc.

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
Same here but i dread to think what a clutch will cost to fit this.
Plus it's wasted spark as well, where'as i'm setup for dizzy
Have you got some photo's of the engine in situ to show where the alternator is.

lol, yes you can dream
It's just sat in garage now, all lonely as every other part I had has now gone.
If it never sells, it'll make me have to buy a kit car or transplant it into the ZTT in a couple of years time, lol
cheers

how much?
how much?
Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
1st post says offers around 3.5k
Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
what a fantastic piece of machinery!
sadly I think it's something people need spare money for....i'd expect you need someone pretty skilled to get it into easily manageable working order especially for every day usage.
Still surprised some track day enthusiast hasn't snapped it up
wish I had alot of spare money

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
its on fleabay again at moment.
If it doesn't sell this time round i'll either wrap it all up and store in shed for a future project, or i'll break the engine down into parts which seems silly to me, but it's just in the way now, and it's the last item I have from the race build.
cheers

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
Geraint,
I just wanna give you a word of advice which will help with the sale of this i think.
Most ebayers dont even know what T16 is, so the odds of them putting that in the search bar is minimal.
Instead of:
MG ZR Rover T16 Full Race Brand New Engine
May i suggest you change the title to:
MG ZR Rover 220 Coupe Turbo Brand New Engine
This will broaden the aount of hits you will get as "coupe" "turbo" and "220" are the most searched
Just tryin to help ya a bit

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
a few must be finding it as has 19 watchers already.
mind you, often that's just people being curious rather than any serious bidders.
I'll try to update the title and see if that helps as well. ta

Re: Ultimate Spec T16 Big Power Engine
it was just throwing me as to why youve not had any interest and i honestly think its down to your title.
Trust me, this should FLY out on fleabay! Change the title, it will make all the difference
Much better, watch how many hits youll get now
