The beast - complete custom case, originally a 486 server tower chassis found in a hedge, now much modified by yours truely to take an ATX board.

Old now, maybe 5+ years or so back in the day it was a droolworthy packing a clocked 2500 barton to 3200xp rated, 1Gb of corsair pro, RAID 0 Seagate SATA, Enermax coolergiant, gigabyte 7nnxp and a nice ATI 9800XT.

Image

Can you tell what game I mostly play??

Image

Yes the CD is hovering thanks to the stupidly powerfull delta 120mm's case has a lot of cooling.

Pretty low spec by todays standards but still a trusty rig just updated with a new G5 mouse will tide me over till I can be bothered to build something new.

Spec (as I remember it)
Pictures to follow, when I can be bothered to duck in behind the TV.

Image EZCool case - no idea what name, but it looks neat and gives good airflow.
Image Asus P5KC Mobo,
Image ATI Radeon HD 3850 GPU,
Image Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 CPU(I think, I can't remember if that was the one I went for in the end or not - might have been the E6750.) (It's not oc'd atm, haven't pushed it yet, have seen no need.)
Image 3x 1GB Corsair XMS2 5400 DDR2 RAM,
Image Seagate Barracuda 500GB Sata II HDD,
Image Tagan TG530 modular PSU,
Image Toshiba SD-H802A DVD/HD,
Image Extra USB 2.0 4 port PCIe card (just for funsies - I'll never use 14 USB ports at once...)
Image 4x Akasa 80mm silent case fans,
Image 1x Akasa 120mm silent case fans,
Image 1x 120mm Ally case fan (don't remember ordering it, but hey!)
Image Logitech G11
Image Logitech MX Revolution
Image Logitech 5.1 Surround (can't remember offhand what it is)
Image Accoustic Solutions 32" HDTV as monitor (yes, I know. It has issues.)
Image Windows XP Pro
Image Firefox User!
Image WinAMP User!

Oh, and I nearly forgot!
Image IcyBox external HDD case, which iirc has my Samsung 80GB photo backup drive in it atm.

I don't have a desk as such. The tower sits on my window ledge by my window, for good, cold, and dust free airflow. The HDTV and front tweeter are on a stand in front of it, the Xbox and sub on the bottom shelf, and a 24port Netgear hub running wireless internet to the box below it, other tweeters are on stands left and right, and on window ledges/beauros behind, and my computer chair is a bigass plush cream leather armchair.

The f**king hub makes more idle noise than everything else put together!

Thankfully the 8800GT is not that much to buy, ive seen them dip under £100.

Getting a new case soon for my PC, to go with my HDTV and glass stand. It will be an HTPC case, but finding one that can handle all my powerful gear is not that easy.

i dont get chavving up your pc nonsense, whats the point?!

a luminous box of whooshing noises in the corner of the room is never going to go down well...

a black glass desk on the other hand is a much more worthwhile spend...

Wow, there are some very impressive systems up there.
volf, where did you get that panel that says "processor" on it? Is the thing above it a hdd cooler case?
I do most of my computer shopping on komplett.

The water cooled system looks very impressive. I would like to try this some day. I have always tried to make a machine that doesn't create much heat so I can use the least amount of fans and at the slowest speed, because I value quietness over a little extra speed.

My main pc seems impressive looking to a lot of people who see it, but it looks quite plain compared to your machines.
I do have so many computers though that I genuinely don't know how many I have!

The two main ones are my media center pc and the other one I'm using now.
This one has an Intel C2D E6850, 4GB of ram and a 320MB Nvidia 8800GT
Image

This is my media center pc and it has an Intel C2D E6600, 4GB of ram and a 256MB Nvidia 7300GT (good enough for TV out and mild game playing if it really needed to). The key feature of this machine though is its disk storage which allows it to be used as a media center and file server. It has a separate sata2 raid card, which has two 750gb disks attached to it in a mirrored array. I have one more 750gb disk for recording tv in media center and another 750GB disk which is partitioned for the OS and to allow space to run a virtual server which I use exclusively for downloads.
Image
As you can see, it's placed inside an odd looking cabinet. This was a Pye Continental 405 line black and white television which actually belonged to my grandfather. My dad watched the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome (would you believe live via satellite!) and the 1969 Moon Landings on it. I remember watching some television on it back in the early 80's before they finally switched off the 405-line system.

Since then it has been completely obsolete, but is nonetheless an interesting curiousity. It has been nothing but a table upon which to put other various TVs throughout the years. I didn't take it apart without considering the nature of what I was doing and whether I was destroying a valuable antique or not. However, my dad was ok with it and I have taken it apart in such a way that it can be put back together again should someone want to. Taking it apart was quite fascinating actually noting all the components and who they were made by.

My next project will be to actually house the computer compenents directly inside, using the tv itself as the PC-case. I will use green neon lighting and tubing to give the impression that you are looking inside the workings of an old television. I will put the buttons for power and usb and so on at the front and extend the main sockets out to a panel I will make at the back. I will take great care however not to cut or modify or damage the existing case in any way.

Used to be really into this... water cooled pcs..cooler master cases, glass sides on everything.

TBH it's all a bit old hat now I think and just looks vulgar...

I much prefer PCs looking stylish and classier now...or just novel and different.

I'll see if I can dig out some sexy old pics ...in the meantime

Yeah, the NES case idea seems nifty, but at the same time a part of me is upset if it meant destroying a working console.

There's probably a hell of a lot more work gone into that bomb case. I seem to remember the nuclear bomb in the James Bond Octopussy film looked like that.

Well, I'd been using an Athlon XP system with a gig of RAM and a 9700 Pro graphics card for sometime so I thought it only right that I make a move in the right direction. I had a quick dabble and overclocked this machine but it's so quick I've currently got it running at stock again!
GeForce 8800.... mmmmmmmm... My friends tried to persuade me to just go all out on that when I was trolling for a GPU, but it was a bit much at circa £400 when I was looking. Gotta be awesome though, right?
It's actually not that expensive. I've got the 512mb 8800GT and am very impressed. Like I said, I came from a 9700 Pro and therefore have very few games to push the card to the limits. I can max out Far Cry, Doom 3 and Half Life!
Costly? I couldn't seem to find much in the way of W/C when I was looking, under the £200 bracket...

Not really... already had the radiator and pipework. Bought a Thermaltake 12v pump a few months ago for the sum of £17 and a waterblock for this CPU which cost about £25. It's not going to set the world on fire with its performance but it's super quiet and of course, has the cool factor about it :)

Quality is pretty good, front is aluminium, rest is medium quality steel, but thats fine for the price.

i have one of these cases for my vista mce machine, there not to bad n quite well built though they a pain in the donkey boy for cooling and for some strange reason the psu sits at the front of the case...

there also a nightmare for hdds, there is one mounting point in the right hand side of the case and one bellow for a floppy or a card reader but i used this for an hdd also.. 2x 750 gb and still not enought! grrr..

Most HTPC cases have the PSU at the front, its actually a pretty good idea.

You can mount a hard drive on each side, where the fan holes are, so you can have up to 4, it would limit cooling, but its ok for a lower powered HTPC setup designed for media use. Im using one of the fan holes for a HDD and have an overclocked quad core, temps are a bit high, but stil within limits.

If you want to add more storage try one of these, brilliant idea! http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=723367

There are some amazing case mods on this page. Keep reading onto the second page as they get even better and more creative and genuinely artistic and beautiful.
http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2007/06 ... -mods.html

I decided to mount all my computer components directly into that old tv that I showed above and fit an lcd panel in the front where the old tube used to be. I'm in the middle of it at the moment and it'll probably take a good while to get it just right, but I'll update later when done or at least mostly done.
