Linking directly to LAN settings in Internet Options

Post by r44flyer »

Is it possible to somehow have a desktop link directly to LAN settings in Internet Options?

I'm setting up a laptop on the home wireless network for my fiancees Dad. It will also be used on his work's network, which uses a proxy server. The home network obviously doesn't.

He's a computer novice so I was hoping to have a one click solution to turning the proxy server on and off, rather than directions through internet explorer>tools>internet options>connections>... etc etc. Simple for some but he will forget every time. If he could click on a desktop link that brings up the LAN settings box, he can tick the proxy server box where the previous settings will be saved, on and off, depending where he is, and the internet will work on the different settings.

Is that doable?

Thanks for the help folks :)

Hmm... that might work. I'll suggest it.

The above method is the prefered way of doing it.

There is another way but I would not recommend it.

Two short cuts with .reg extentsions.

To turn Proxy on:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"ProxyEnable"=dword:00000001

To turn proxy off.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"ProxyEnable"=dword:00000000
