MG Zero takes on the BMW Mini?

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

Now that is ugly.

Looks like a Fabia crossed with Bumblebee.

No. Just no. That's horrible. :scared:

I really wish I could like these new MG designs, but I haven't even been remotely interested in a single one.

LOL @ that pic.

I'm glad its not just me. I restrained myself from commenting for fear of causing offence to you lots delicate rover sensibilities... but that thing is f*cking gopping! Looks like the b*stard child of a fiesta st and the contents of my toilet the morning after an onion bhaji binge.

taking on the mini? The mini is bought by arty farty trendy types, not people who chopped in their wikkid max powah spaxo....

Sir, I really would advise an appointment with an optician with great haste. ;)

Only similarities I see are these -

1 - They are both cars
2 - They are both white
3 - They are both hatchbacks

Scarily enough, the MG actually manages the previously unthinkable feat of making the 'not entirely gorgeous' 1-series look rather good when compared side by side. :o

The BMW also goes some way to making up for the dodgy looks by being RWD and available with a 3 litre straight six, of course. Shows you how awful I think the new MG designs are - I'm actually sticking up for the 1-series, which is one of my least favourite cars in the world.

By that definition, this is also therefore a BMW 1-series -

Aside from having always been very irritating, is "extreme", in-your-face styling even "in" anymore?

Not necessarily - echo RDX60:

This appeared in an August 2004 edition of Autocar, and was actually quite close to the prototype of the time. It's not necessarily so far fetched as you think..

It's amazing how time softens one's opinion of things - at the time, people thought it looked bloody horrible. The blue one in the same mag (I'm trying to find the pic) was fecking horrible tbh!

Remember when the freelander came out..... or the ford focus... or even the bmw 5 series (e60), designs that were thought ugly by a fair few people, now just normal and/or liked :)

Its nice, i quite like the new MGs and they seem to be getting good reviews for the most part. Anything is better than the BMW Mini, the whole retro thing is SO over now, it just looks old and boring. Ive always prefer harder edges to curves anyway.

Hm.

Quite like the interior.

However, extra kudos to whomsoever mentioned the word 'Tron', after seeing pictures of it.

cant say its gorgeous, but im just happy to see something new from MG.

By the sounds of the engine choices they are going to underpower it again. Wish they would go mental on a car for once.

I can see why some would think its ugly. It doesnt have classical lines and flowing curves, but these days few cars manage to pull that off due to space and safety concerns. I think recent Alfas have been a bit ugly for Alfas and Peugeots are absolutely grotesque.

According to autocar there will be a turbo version and it'll be on sale in the UK next year along with the Diesel MG6 and maybe if enough demand an estate version of the 6

Not much to do with MG now though is it? Just a badge to stick on. May as well be a ford. Looks more like a fiesta or corsa redesign to me
