Excellent deployment of 'banging' and 'rodding', there! :D

Fair point on the 'world class' players. Rooney is class, of course, no debate. I prefer Gerrard to Lampard. They're both class, but I do see them as too similar, (ie central midfielders) and I can understand people who reckon they can't play in the same team. If I picked the team, whether there were 3, 4 or 5 midfield players, I'd still only have on of 'em, probably Stevie, smack dab in the middle. I know Frank gets a helluva lot of goals coming forward, but I still think Stevie does it better, and sees the play in front of him better than Frank.

Owen WAS good, but I think he was a bit one footed to still be considered a 'world class' forward. He's too easily neutralised by just forcing him onto his left foot. Which is how I always felt about Beckham, too, as it goes. Sure, Beckham had amazing accuracy when crossing from the right, and could hit a helluva dead ball, but always way, way too flimsy for me. Too easily put out of the game by being 'clobbered' early on.

Ferdinand, while he's obviously a big miss, can still be a bit of a 'bombscare' at the back. For a centre back with his experience he can make the most basic errors of judgement, which can be the difference between winning and losing at the top level.

wut...

he will be the one who wins a game for england if anyone. never stops running and working for the team. his temper was bad before... he couldnt control it at all but he channels it a lot better now and he would be the very first name in the england team.

ive never rated crouch, but for some reason he always seems to score goals which is what a forward needs to do.

heskey... dont really know. he cant hit a barn door to save his life but id have him for pure physical presence and the ability to hold up the ball. tends to spend more time on the floor than on his feet at times though haha

james has always been a good keeper but is far too prone to making stupid mistakes. on his day he is an epic keeper. id choose rob green over him though. joe hart will be the next number 1, very good aswel.

It's a game. A bit like cricket, teams of eleven, a ball, all that.

But a few more teams than England, Australia and India compete for the World championship of it.

And a match lasts an hour and a half, rather than a week.

(Only joking.)

Oi, you dress wearing mincer, comparing football to cricket is like comparing Kate Moss to Michelle McManus.

Go and wash your bitter mouth out! :P Just because you aren't at the World Cup...

Neither of us are "at" the World Cup. I support Scotland and you prefer cricket.

And who is Michelle McManus?

Right. I do know who she is. I just didn't recognise her name. She won the 'X Factor' or one of those shows, right?

She's a TV presenter now.

I didn't mean it as 'fighting talk'. I thought you genuinely were a cricket fan. I don't know enough about cricket to slag it off. I'm glad it was you who called it proper gay, and not me!

(Because I was secretly thinking that, obviously!)

You are alright noonan. If you look good in that dress you could get lucky as I bother anything with a pulse. I normally can't understand what they are saying as they are so intoxicated, the fact you are Scottish will continue that trend! :w00t:

Scots have no understanding of fashion, they ONLY wear dresses. The fact guys wear them is a bit suspect. :|

Right. Gotcha. THAT dress.

It could be worse. We could attach little bells to our knees and dance around hitting each other with pig bladders tied to the ends of sticks.

Seriously, though, I hate having no understanding of fashion.

The ones from Wrexham are. Folk from Cardiff are OK.

Just joking. My pal, who's a bit of a genius on the quiet, told me that Britain leads the world in 'parochialism'. I thought he meant we were all wooden puppets whose noses grew if we told lies.

But no, he said in America, Texans will mistrust Louisianians. New Yorkers will mistrust New Jersey-ians (? dunno), but in Britain we've refined it down to people in even numbered houses mistrusting people on the opposite side of the street...! "Hanging's too good for those odd numbered ba$tard$!", he said....!

It was funny. It's true, though, d'ye not think? Everybody needs something to hate, or at least to appear successful by comparison to, and on our small island you have to be quite creative, I think!

You know what all them detention centres is full of nowadays? All them weirdoes from the Isle Of Man. Coming over here with their tail-less cats and their worthless banknotes. White as a sheet and speaking the Queen's English, most of 'em...

There goes the neighbourhood....

Well, the World Cup (I'm never going to call it the 'FIFA World Cup') has started, and it all seems to be working. South Africa V Mexico wasn't fantastic, but the opening game rarely is. South Africa were unlucky not to have won. Their goal was a belter.
France V Uruguay was pretty forgettable, apart from this World Cup's first sending off, of course. Imagine it being a Uruguayan player! ( Uruguay hold the record for the fastest red card; 58 seconds in their match with Scotland at Mexico 86)
Fair play to the refs and linesmen. though. So far. The officials at the opening game were from Uzbekhistan, and for the France/Uruguay game they were from Japan, and they ran both games spot on.

I'm enjoying the World Cup so far. England V USA tomorrow. Every cafe in South Africa will be hiding their aluminium chairs as we speak...

My prediction: England 2 USA 3.
